MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:(Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in environmental sciences, engineering, construction management, or a related field; plus four years of experience in an environmental, engineering or construction management program.
Basic Qualifications: 8 Years of experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline is required or 6 Years of experience with a Master degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or closely related technical discipline. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert who can lead complex, multi-site initiatives, interpret evolving regulations to develop forward-looking strategies, and collaborate effectively with site-level teams, corporate leadership, and external agencies to uphold our commitment to environmental stewardship and operational excellence.
This individual will be responsible fordriving business development for Phase 1 and 2 ESAs, PCAs, and subsurface investigation services, coordinate and oversee field inspections, reporting, and conduct technical inspections as needed, interview and recommend new hires and independent contractors and learn and use Salesforce for proposals, follow up with clients, and collaborate with team members for Red Tape Due Diligence services. Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelors degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
Specialized Experience may include but is not limited to: Experience conducting engineering studies, research projects or inspections concerning the conservation of natural resources; applying techniques in gathering and analyzing facts and samples to identify levels of air/ground pollutants or contaminates; and participating in environmental conservation, restoration, compliance, and pollution prevention projects.
ul>Provides education and outreach to the community on environmental health issues;
Works with City partners and community partners to identify outreach opportunities across the agency;
Creates content for dissemination via website and various City social media platforms;
Researches, creates and makes presentations;
Assists in the preparation of reports, correspondence and other administrative tasks;
Partners with the Alexandria Animal Welfare League to support rabies prevention through outreach activities;
Investigates bite reports;
Provides initial response to mosquito complaints;
Conducts aquatic health inspections, including confirming permit paperwork is in order; testing water pH level and ensuring proper filtration system is in operation;
Performs related work as required.
The Environmental Health Division prides itself on its commitment to ensuring public health and safety, working together as a team, and our dedication to continuing education as well as cross training our staff in all areas of environmental health.
Responsibilities include development and maintenance of Industrial Safety Programs and OSHA compliance programs, general EHS duties, incident response, and emergency management. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
