Primarily serving as a receiving unit for patients stepping down from MICU, 6A also admits patients from the Emergency Department, outside hospitals, and smaller ICUs requiring a higher level of care for stabilization. The unit frequently cares for patients with respiratory issues (with respiratory therapy available on the floor), drug and alcohol withdrawal, GI bleeds, altered mental status, sepsis, and congestive heart failure (CHF).
