Custodial and Grounds staff are considered critical employees which means, in the event of a University of Michigan emergency reduction in operations, including a public health emergency, suspension of academic classes, or during weather-related reductions in operations, the Director of Custodial and Grounds Services has designated this position as critical. In addition, the Custodian II operates mechanical cleaning and scrubbing equipment, strips and waxes floor surfaces, and maintains entrance area by performing such duties as sweeping, salting, and shoveling snow as required.
