Common diagnoses include labor; vaginal or assisted singleton/higher-order multiple birth; procedural pre- and post-anesthesia; obstetric, fetal, and gynecological surgical procedures; newborn transition; fetal complications; fetal demise; electronic fetal/uterine activity monitoring; pain, comfort, and coping management; identification of and intervention with labor, and complex obstetric, medical, and surgical complications impacting the childbearing woman and her fetus(s). Hospital Labor and Delivery and High Risk combined units are committed to the care of obstetrical triage, antepartum, intrapartum, peri-operative, postpartum and peri-anesthesia women, their fetuses, and their newborns, in a setting of general and moderate nursing care and an environment that supports and empowers families.
