Digifabshop Finishers are responsible for implementing a wide variety of finishing applications and cosmetic repairs for wood, metal, and composite materials under the direction and guidance of the Finishing Lead. Hours: (full-time, 40 hrs/wk) M-Th, 8 am – 5 pm | Fr, 8 am – 2:30 pm (regular OT expected included weekends as needed)     Location: This position is located in Albany, NY – onsite work is required      Pay Range: $22 - $30  Individual compensation is based on various factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors. Digifabshop Finishers are responsible for implementing a wide variety of finishing applications and cosmetic repairs for wood, metal, and composite materials under the direction and guidance of the Finishing Lead. True perfectionists, Digifabshop finishers have an unparalleled eye for detail. Duties / Responsibilities: <ul><li>Sprays, brushes, or hand rubs finishing ingredients such as paint, oil, lacquer, stain, or wax onto wood, metal, and other materials </li></ul><ul><li>Operates, monitors and maintains Makor Q-One spray-finishing machine for production job finishing </li></ul><ul><li>Mixes and prepares finish according to manufacturer specifications and desired outcome </li></ul><ul><li>Prepares all surfaces to be finished and masks all areas where finish will not be applied </li></ul><ul><li>Treats, recolors, fills, or otherwise repairs damaged or defective areas in a variety of stock </li></ul><ul><li>Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with OSHA industry standards </li></ul><ul><li>Examining finished products and finishing processes to evaluate their quality and effectiveness </li></ul><ul><li>Balance quality and timeliness while carrying out shop assignments; ensuring that finishing products are not wasted unnecessarily </li></ul><ul><li>Proficient in use of electronic communication. </li></ul><ul><li>Proactively seeks continuous improvement and professional development. </li></ul><ul><li>Meaningfully contribute to team meetings, training, policies, strategy and culture </li></ul><ul><li>Perform other related duties as required. </li></ul>Required Skills / Abilities: <ul><li>Visual Discrimination – The ability to match or detect differences in color, texture, and pattern both subtle and obvious </li></ul><ul><li>Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, inspect, or assemble objects </li></ul><ul><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills </li></ul><ul><li>The ability to identify complex problems and development innovative solutions </li></ul><ul><li>Attentive, considerate, inquisitive and empathetic to others </li></ul><ul><li>Exceptional time management skills </li></ul><ul><li>Lifelong learner & team player </li></ul><ul><li>Possess a willingness to teach others who are less experienced  </li></ul><ul><li>Fast paced, energetic environment </li></ul>Education and Experience: <ul><li>Previous experience, or on-the-job training required. </li></ul><ul><li>1-2 years of relevant industry experience </li></ul>Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, fumes, and loud noises.  Key duties and responsibilities <ul><li>Surface Preparation: Inspect the newly installed drywall panels, ensuring they are properly fastened and ready for taping. Clean the surface and address any issues like loose drywall or plaster to ensure optimal adhesion.</li><li>Apply Tape: Apply paper or fiberglass mesh tape to cover the joints where drywall panels meet to prevent cracking.</li><li>Apply Joint Compound: Apply multiple layers of joint compound (also called mud or spackle) over the taped seams, corner beads, and screw holes, using broad knives, or spatulas. Carefully feather out the compound to create a smooth transition between the taped area and the surrounding drywall surface.</li><li>Sanding and Finishing: Sand the rough areas, ensuring a smooth, seamless finish. This typically involves several rounds of applying compound and sanding to achieve the desired level of smoothness.</li><li>Inspecting and Repairing: Inspect work for imperfections and make any necessary repairs or touch-ups before final inspection; this might also repair existing drywall damage like cracks or holes.</li><li>Using Tools and Equipment: Proficient in using a variety of hand tools like taping knives, mud pans, and sanders. For larger jobs, power tools and specialized equipment are also required.</li><li>Safety Practices: Must adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment, including proper tool and material storage. </li></ul>Essential skills and qualities <ul><li>Attention to Detail: Achieving a flawless finish requires meticulous attention to detail, ensuring no seams, bumps, or imperfections are visible.</li><li>Dexterity: Must have excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precision work with tools and applying compounds.</li><li>Physical Stamina: The work is physically demanding, involving repetitive motions, working overhead, and standing for extended periods.</li><li>Patience: This role involves multiple coats and drying times, requiring patience to achieve a high-quality outcome.</li><li>Problem-Solving: Need to be able to identify and resolve issues like uneven surfaces or structural challenges.</li><li>Time Management: Efficiently managing time and coordinating with other trades is crucial for meeting project deadlines.</li><li>Communication: Effective communication with supervisors, colleagues, and potentially clients is important for understanding requirements and addressing issues. </li></ul> Work environment This position primarily works indoors, which can range from residential homes to large commercial buildings. The work environment is often dusty, especially during the sanding phases, and may be noisy due to other trades working nearby; workers frequently work on ladders, scaffolding, or even stilts to reach higher areas. They typically work as part of a small crew or independently, to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to high standards.  Must have a demanding blend of technical skills, physical stamina, and a strong commitment to quality craftsmanship.  The work can be physically demanding, requiring standing, bending, reaching, and lifting heavy materials.  We are looking for someone who can work as part of a busy team on our bigger jobs, as well as complete and manage smaller jobs on their own.   This role is offered on a full-time basis with the expectation of up to 40 hours of work each week. Shift hours may vary depending on factors such as business hours and staff availability, and reasonable overtime hours may be required if necessary.
