<p style="line-height:93%">The City of Independence is seeking a Part-Time Firefighter to join the City's Fire Department.</p><h1>Duties and Responsibilities:</h1><ul><li>Suppression of Fire.</li><li>Prevention of Fire.</li><li>Perform Emergency Medical Care.</li><li>Handling of Hazardous Materials; Usually Under Hazardous Conditions. </li><li>Responds to Alarms.</li><li>Provides Emergency Medical Service & Transport. </li><li>Assists in Suppression of Fires Including Entry, Rescue, Ventilating and Salvage Work.</li><li>Conducts Fire Scene Investigation Activities.</li><li>Conducts Fire Inspections. </li><li>Acts as a Community Relations Representative to the Public. </li><li style="line-height:13.05pt">Performs duties as </li></ul><h1>Requirements:</h1><p style="text-align:justify"><u>Education:</u></p><ul><li style="text-align:justify">Any combination of education and experience with a minimum of high school graduation or G.E.D. supplemented by required firefighting and emergency medical paramedic training as well as some prior experience in the emergency services field. </li></ul><p style="text-align:justify"><u>Certifications:</u></p><ul><li style="line-height:12.65pt">Valid State of Ohio-EMT Paramedic Certification </li><li style="line-height:12.65pt">Valid State of Ohio Firefighter I & Firefighter II Certification</li><li style="line-height:12.65pt">Valid State of Ohio driver's license with a good driving record, is required. Applicants must not have any major violations and no more than 6 points on their license. </li><li style="line-height:12.65pt">Valid active Physical Agility Test Certification from either Cuyahoga Community College (Tri C) or Auburn Career Center with a finishing time of 5:00 minutes or less. </li></ul><p style="line-height:12.65pt"><u>Additional:</u></p><ul><li style="line-height:12.65pt">Must be a citizen of the United States of America</li><li style="line-height:12.65pt">Must be able to commute to Independence Fire Station due to the importance of immediate need for response in an emergency.</li><li style="line-height:12.65pt">Must be of good moral character; Emotional stability, maturity and sound judgment are also required. </li><li style="line-height:12.65pt">All candidates are to submit a current resume along with the job application for a completed submission.</li></ul><h1>Physical Requirements:</h1><ul><li style="line-height:normal">Must have vision of not less than 20/30 Binocular, either uncorrected or corrected with glasses and/or contact lenses. Uncorrected vision of at least 20/100 Binocular wearers of glasses and/or hard contact lenses. (No uncorrected standard applies to successful long-term soft contact wearers).</li><li style="line-height:normal">Must possess the strength and physical ability to successfully perform the essential job functions of a Firefighter/Paramedic, and be free of medical conditions that would preclude one from successfully performing said functions or would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of oneself or others</li><li style="line-height:115%">Must pass a thorough screening which may include any and/or all the following: physical agility test, background investigation, pre-employment physical, drug screen and/or polygraph examination.
