The Funeral Director / Embalmer is responsible for providing skilled, dignified care in the preparation and service of every family we serve. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes genuine pride in their craft, brings compassion to every interaction, and understands that the care given behind the scenes is just as important as the care given in the arrangement room.This is a standalone role focused on funeral direction and preparation, with no location management responsibilities, allowing you to focus on what you do best: serving families with excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesCare & Preparation<ul><li>Perform embalming and body preparation with precision and dignity, following all applicable protocols and the wishes of the family</li><li>Ensure every decedent is handled respectfully and with proper identification maintained throughout</li><li>Prepare remains for viewing, services, and final disposition in accordance with regulatory requirements</li></ul>Funeral Direction & Family Care<ul><li>Meet with client families to guide arrangement conferences with professionalism and compassion</li><li>Coordinate and direct funeral and memorial services from start to finish</li><li>Serve as a calm, steady presence for families navigating one of the most difficult experiences of their lives</li></ul>Compliance & Documentation<ul><li>Complete and maintain all required records, permits, and authorizations accurately and on time</li><li>Follow all OSHA, state, and company safety and compliance standards rigorously</li></ul>Facility & Team<ul><li>Willingness to participate in all aspects of funeral service, including: taking part in the rotating on-call schedule, performing removals, and supporting each location as needed. </li><li>Maintain cleanliness and organization of the prep room and funeral home facilities</li><li>Ensure all equipment is properly sanitized, operational, and maintained</li><li>Collaborate with the broader team on scheduling, logistics, and service support</li><li>Bring a team-first mindset and a positive, professional presence to every shift</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Illinois funeral director/embalmer license, license in a reciprocating state, or demonstrated ability to obtain Illinois licensure</li><li>Graduation from an accredited mortuary science program, or currently enrolled</li><li>Strong embalming and preparation skills; restorative art experience is a plus</li><li>Genuine compassion for families and a deep respect for the dignity of the deceased</li><li>Detail-oriented with a commitment to documentation accuracy and compliance</li><li>Collaborative, dependable, and professional in all interactions</li></ul>Benefits <ul><li>Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance and more</li><li>Paid Time Off</li><li>Sick Leave</li><li>Maternity Leave</li><li>401(k) Plan</li></ul>Why IFP?Our core vision is to find, achieve, and enjoy a better way.
