Overview:
The laboratory scientist plays an important role in the lab.The laboratory scientist is the face of the lab interacting with patients and nursing personnel. The laboratory scientist is a Bachelor degreed individual who supports preanalytic, analytic and post analytic laboratory workflows. Responsibilities may include the following:1) registration; 2) registration/billing work queues; 3) inpatient, outpatient or outreach phlebotomy; 4) sample processing/aliqouting/ accessioning; and 5) CLIA waived and moderate complexity testing. Testing areas may include hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and microbiology.

Responsibilities:
Pre-Analytic workflows<ul><li>Greets everyone with a pleasant and professional manner, using patient experience best practice guidelines (AIDET, 5/10 Rule and No-Point, etc).</li><li>Identifies patients and samples using two patient identifiers, always labeling samples in the presence of the patient.</li><li>May perform venous and capillary blood collections independently for patients of all ages within specified safety parameters, timelines and pace.</li><li>Assists with sample transport, receiving, processing, aliqouting, accessioning and delivery of specimens to testing areas.</li><li>Demonstrates knowledge of computer programs for patient identification, registration, registration work queues, order, and sample tracking.</li><li>Utilizes supply items in a cost effective manner, recognizing when to reorder, and assisting with unpacking and/or restocking items.</li><li>Achieves basic understanding of lab tests to answer patient questions in an easy to understand way.</li></ul>Analytic workflows<ul><li>Performs CLIA waived and moderate complex testing in accordance with manufacturer specifications using good laboratory practice.</li><li>Works closely with MT/MLS/MLT with lab procedures/tests/training</li><li>Works efficiently with the work flow and work load</li><li>Documents routine instrument maintenance</li><li>Troubleshoots and resolves instrument and equipment issues</li><li>Documents, reviews and writes technical procedures for department</li><li>Monitors technical practices to meet necessary standards, recommendations and requirements of voluntary and government agencies (CAP, TJC, CLIA).</li><li>Strong knowledge of computer systems used on analyzers, Sunquest and EPIC</li></ul>Post-Analytic workflows<ul><li>Appropriate reporting protocols</li><li>Able to review reports for errors</li><li>Understanding of Quality Management system</li></ul>Committed Team<ul><li>Prioritizes work in the best interest of the patient, sharing the work with team members.</li><li>Assists with training new employees and students, being helpful and supportive in their teaching.</li><li>Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.</li><li>Attends department huddles, staff meetings and other required training.</li><li>Checks emails regularly for huddle minutes and important communications relevant to assignment.</li></ul>

Qualifications:

The Chemical Technician II is responsible for producing high quality reagents that are used worldwide and handling regulated waste. 
This position reports to the Chemical Processing Supervisor and is part of the Chemical Processing team and all work is performed on-site. 
In this role, you will have the opportunity to: 
 Utilizes ERP system to monitor inventory levels, schedule and create work orders, transfer material and decrement from the system 
 Changes and dispenses materials for production follow the current processes for manufacturing, storage, and transportation of chemicals, including handling regulated waste, and actively participates in the Hazardous Material Spill Response Team 
 Gathers, interprets, and analyzes data from scale readouts and BCMS scripts. Will be required to troubleshoot issues with quality and delivery as they arise 
The essential requirements of the job include 
 Associate degree in STEM field OR at least 2+ years of applicable experience 
 Ability to meet all required certifications required for the role, such as HAZWOPER 24hr-Technician Certification (requiring Medically fit to participate in Respirator Program), RCRA awareness certification, certified Powered Industrial Truck Operator 
 The ability to be medically clear and adhere to Respiratory Program is a condition of employment and continued employment. Individuals in these functions will need to be tested, pass, and be fitted for respirator use as part of standard personal-protective equipment 
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements: 
 Very Heavy - Exert 100 lbs. Of force occasionally and/or 50 lbs. Of force frequently 
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in: 
 Bachelor s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field 
 Making sound decisions when mixing bulk chemicals and troubleshooting equipment without direct supervisor input 
 Working with basic chemistry and mathematics, including unit conversations necessary to perform in-process adjustments
