TheScholarly Initiatives LawLibrarian provides specialized law research and reference services and consultation to support law students, faculty, staff, and library patrons in traditional and virtual environments. The position is responsible for evolving law library services, innovatively to be responsive to the legal research and cross-disciplinary needs in support of the scholarship. Thisis a professional librarian position without faculty status and non-tenure track. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>Provides both quick reference and in-depth research services using a variety of legal and non-legal resources, determines the appropriate resources, conducts in-depth inquiries to clarify the subject, scope, and purpose of requests.</li><li>Designs, implements, integrates, and assesses library/information research and reference related aids, online tools, modules, OERs, tutorials, and other digital experiences that develop knowledge of and expertise in library resources that enhance research and reference skills.</li><li>Provides assistance to faculty with online learning platforms, engagement support, and programs including course-integrated instruction. </li><li>Participates in Law Library collection development efforts, including selection, assessment, and management of resources and makes recommendations to leadership; serves as liaison to vendors.</li><li>Identifiesnew resources and maintains awareness services and systems related to law librarianship, legal education, and pedagogy; explores new and emerging legal research methods and technologies, including those supporting data and analytics research.</li><li>Coordinates and maintains content for the Library's website and social media that provide a quality user experience; Ensures interactive user engagement with with web tools and aids; evaluates and improves the discoverability and usability of patron-facing systems; works closely with IT personnel on pertinent issues.</li><li>Develops and implements outreach activities to engage the law school community; presents to legal programs, tours, orientations, guest lectures, clinics and workshops. </li><li>Makes recommendations to leadership on policies and operational changes and advancements related to various systems, including but not limited to systems administration decisions and ongoing maintenance.</li><li>Adapts technology in support of library reference and services; utilizes electronic and print resources to support all aspects of litigation, case law, legislative, statutory, and regulatory research.</li><li>Represents the School of Law and the greater university and the profession; engages and contributes to the profession and grows professionally through substantive involvement in committee work, research, publishing and/or participation in professional organizations at national, regional, section, and local levels.</li><li>Creates and provides training to faculty, staff, and other groups on content of databases, library resources, and other research and bibliographical tools (collateral, research guides, checklists, etc.).</li><li>Assists faculty with online dissemination of scholarly publications.</li><li>Trains and supervises research assistants, e.g., Dean's Research Fellows.</li><li>Participates in university, library, and community committees, organizations, and meetings, working collaboratively with colleagues.</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul> QUALIFICATIONS: <ul><li>J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school required</li><li>Master's degree from an ALA accredited library school required (or foreign equivalent) </li><li>J.D. individuals that have been accepted into a MLS Program encouraged to apply. </li><li>2-3 yearsof law library experience preferred.Candidates with experience or strong aptitude conducting in-depth legal research, including general litigation experience (case law, expert witness research, etc.); experience and/or know extensive knowledge of legal bibliography and legal research techniques in multiple formats; or, fluency with new and emerging technologies as they relate to information literacy, legal practice, are encouraged to apply. </li><li>Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.</li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with library information technology, systems, products and delivery technologies that support access to library materials;</li><li>Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams (Zoom or Other Virtual Environments). Demonstrated proficiency with PowerPoint, LibGuides, TRG's Quest,social media platforms and web-based communication, information and collaboration tools.</li><li>Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; ability to work effectively with communities across the university.</li><li>Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. </li><li>Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; displays solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; works well independently and as part of a team.</li><li>Must be able to work in a culture that is committed to furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion.</li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Library staff with a strong service orientation.</li><li>May be required to work more than 40 hours a week, depending on the event schedule.</li><li>Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make oneself understood to Spanish-speaking individuals).</li></ul>PHYSICAL DEMANDS: <ul><li style="vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;text-align:left">Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business. </li><li style="vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;text-align:left">While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.</li><li style="vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;text-align:left">Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. </li><li style="vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;text-align:left">Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.</li><li style="vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;text-align:left">Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. </li></ul> The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
