An engineer operates locomotives in a safe and efficient manner, following all company and industry regulations, and performs other duties associated with the movement of trains, railcars, and engines on the main line of the railroad and in rail yards. He or she receives, relays, or acts upon oral, written, or radio instructions from the dispatcher, trainmaster or other personnel indicating the switch movement, placement, or delivery of railcars and/or a train.
