High school diploma or GED required, Associate or Bachelor degree in related field preferred; Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General knowledge of the operation, repair, and servicing requirements of pumps, motors, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and control equipment commonly found in wastewater treatment and collection systems; General experience with electrical and mechanical equipment with work experience in a variety of work elements including equipment repair, servicing and lubrication, and troubleshooting; Competent in the use of database/computer software; Must be able to work unsupervised in the operation and care of machinery and mechanical devices, electrical equipment, buildings, and grounds; Ability to work effectively with hand and power tools, ability to recognize and diagnose equipment failures, ability to act in an emergency; Ability to understand and perform work in manners that meet NPDES permit compliance requirements; Must be able to work all shifts, call outs, and holidays; Must be able to read, write, and speak English; Ability to maintain records and prepare activity reports; Ability to learn and become proficient in the use of asset management programs and work order systems; Must display an attitude of cooperation and the ability to work well with others; Ability to work as a team player; Ability to communicate with management, supervisors and co-workers with respect in a pleasant, courteous manner; Integrity, in the performance of assigned tasks; Working knowledge of safety regulations, policies, and practices; Working knowledge of safe rigging practices; Working knowledge of and the ability to use general shop tools, pickup truck, forklift, acetylene, and arc welder, snowplow, air compressor, front-end loader, drill press, hydraulic press, pipe threader, mill, lathe, brake, shear, various drills and wrenches, sand blaster, and spray paint gun; Ability to use power tools for shop maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding, electrical and cement finishing work; Knowledge of emergency response procedures and disaster response; have ability to follow and execute emergency assistance when called upon. Work Environment & Physical Demands: Job requires extensive walking, bending, and other physical movements; Routinely requires lifting and moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves more than 100 pounds; Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in extreme outside weather conditions; Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration; Requires driving a motorized vehicle or maintenance equipment; Occasionally is exposed to risk of electrical shock; Employees work in/at heights, confined spaces and are exposed to mechanical, electrical hazards; Employees work on or around walkways of expanded metal, uneven concrete, and rocky areas which can become slippery and icy; on lift equipment and step ladders in confined areas; in and around moving mechanical parts; Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids, and chemicals; Additional environmental conditions include: exposure to sewage, methane, hydrogen sulfide and other possible toxic gases and hazardous substances.
