Consideration will be given to scholarly and pedagogical approaches that support the program''s commitment to applied, integrative, and interdisciplinary research in American and transnational literature, history, philosophy, politics, sociology, anthropology, and related fields. The ideal candidate will be able to provide interdisciplinary context for Herman Melville''s Moby-Dick, examining subjects such as freedom and slavery, consumption and commodities, nineteenth-century American religion, politics, culture, and intellectual history.
