Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics; ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality control, performance improvement, safety, environmental, and infection-control requirements; communicate requirements and hold staff accountable; and coordinate policies, procedures, and quality activities to improve operational efficiency. Interface with patients and families to ensure care is consistent with their expectations; ensure active use of the nursing process from pre-admission or admission through discharge and beyond, based on the clinical setting; and serve as a professional role model, mentor, and change agent who supports colleagues through change.
