Job Summary Maintains grounds of industrial, commercial or public property.  Employment TypeThis is a part-time position with the potential to transition to full-time based on business needs. Primary Job Functions <ul><li>Repairs structures and equipment. </li></ul><ul><li>Cuts grass, using walking-type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs.). </li></ul><ul><li>Trims hedges and edges around walks, flower beds, and wells, using hedge trimmers, clippers and edging tools. </li></ul><ul><li>Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears and other hand tools. </li></ul><ul><li>Sprays lawn, shrubs and trees with fertilizer or insecticide. </li></ul><ul><li>Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs. </li></ul><ul><li>Waters lawn and shrubs during dry periods, using hose or activating sprinkler system. </li></ul><ul><li>Picks up and dispose of leaves, paper or other litter. </li></ul><ul><li>Removes snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots, using shovel and snow blower. </li></ul><ul><li>Spreads salt on walkways and other areas. </li></ul><ul><li>Repairs and paints fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings. </li></ul><ul><li>Assists in repair of roads, walks, buildings and mechanical equipment. </li></ul><ul><li>May clean comfort stations, office and workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping and polishing. </li></ul><ul><li>Performs other duties as assigned.  </li></ul>    Working Conditions  <ul><li>Frequent heavy or intense physical requirements. </li></ul><ul><li>Frequent exposure to a number of disagreeable environmental elements, such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Injury may require professional treatment or hospitalization--constant precautions required, i.e., face mask, safety glasses, and/or ear protection always needed. </li></ul><ul><li>Be able to stand extended period of time, push, pull, bend, kneel, and stretch as required  </li></ul><ul><li>Be able to lift 50 lbs. </li></ul> Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities <ul><li>Knowledgeable and skilled in ground maintenance. </li></ul><ul><li>Able to understand verbal or written direction. </li></ul> Disclaimer CBRE Government and Defense is thrilled at the opportunity for you to apply to one of our roles. The Academy is a year-round educational and athletic facility with a mission of using baseball and softball as vehicles to foster positive character development, academic achievement, and improved health among at-risk Washington, D.C., youth. Field: The Summer Academy Lead Classroom Teacher will be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Summer Academy Lead Classroom Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing daily logistics (including tracking and reporting daily Scholar Athlete attendance), lead classroom time activities, develop thorough and creative alternative instructional plans to prevent summer slide, other activities related to academics, baseball/softball, Team Time, and other activities, as requested. This is a part time, limited term position from June 15th to July 31st, 2026, working an average of 34 hours per week.Summer Programming Schedule:<ul><li>Mandatory Training: Week of June 15 (or after completion of current school year)</li><li>Programming: June 24 – July 31</li><li>Typical Programming Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm</li></ul>The Summer Academy Lead Classroom Teacher is expected to be at the Academy for summer programming during the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm and will attend all academy field-trips, as requested. The Summer Academy Lead Classroom Teacher is also expected to attend a variety of evening and weekend activities, as well as mandatory training and professional development programs provided by the Academy.The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy (“Academy”) is the programmatic arm of Washington Nationals Philanthropies. The Academy is a year-round educational and athletic facility with a mission of using baseball and softball as vehicles to foster positive character development, academic achievement, and improved health among at-risk Washington, D.C., youth. We are looking for a Summer Academy Lead Classroom Teacher to manage and optimize the various systems needed to execute this vision.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>Design and lead classroom instruction, and support mealtime, gathering time/Team Time, field trips, and inclement weather activities.</li><li>Submit lesson plans in advance to the Program Manager.</li><li>Maintain an organized classroom setting, support oversight of transition from classrooms to the field for Scholar Athletes and other learning activities.</li><li>Manage classroom behavior and collaborate with the Classroom Coordinator to execute lesson plans.</li><li>Participate in and provide effective oversight of Scholar Athletes during field-trips and to and from the Academy.</li></ul><ul><li>Coordinate with the appropriate Baseball/Softball Coordinator and other program staff for daily logistics.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Requirements:Minimum Education and Experience Requirements<ul><li>High School or equivalent with 2+ years of relevant experience in youth-based sports or academic activities.</li><li>1+ years of relevant youth development experience and/or teaching experience.</li><li>College degree preferred.</li></ul>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions<ul><li>Ability to manage the classroom setting and design and lead assignments and lessons in STEM (science, technology, engineering and/or math) for students in grades 3 through 8.</li><li>Commitment to working with youth and families in a low-income, urban community; belief that all students can achieve at high levels.</li><li>Commitment to achieving the articulated objectives of the Academy for scholar-athletes, staff, and the community at-large.</li><li>Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills.</li><li>At the Academy during the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday-Friday during our 6 week summer program.
