JOB DESCRIPTION The Laboratory Assistant maneuvers in a cross functional role between the gross room and the pathology office. This position is responsible for, but not limited to the upkeep and operation of gross room equipment, solution rotation/replacement and specimen verification. Additionally, within the Pathology office, this position is expected to collect and prepare specimens for review, as well as order entry and management. RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for correctly accessioning and ordering testing per protocol. Keeps an inventory of Grossing room and place orders to maintain adequate stock of needed items. Receives and orders, fills phone requests for reports, slides or blocks for outside studies, consults and legal cases of Pathology material. Responsible for distributing completed reports to designated personnel. Requests and posts surgery schedule and frozen sections for following day. Enters Pathologist on call into directory in LIS system. Follows established procedures for histology quality control and reports discrepancies to the manager. Troubleshoots equipment, reagents, or procedural technique when problems occur. Notifies the supervisor if unable to solve the problem. Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures. When handling blood and/or bodily fluids, universal precaution procedures will be followed to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the laboratory as defined in the scope of service to ensure that appropriate testing for all clients served is correctly and accurately performed.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters. Responsibilities:
<ol><li>Clinical Duties:<ul><li>Prepare exam and procedure rooms for Mohs micrographic surgery and other surgical and medical visits, ensuring proper setup of procedural instruments and efficient clinic flow.</li><li>Assist the Mohs surgeon during all stages of the procedure, including pre-operative care, tissue preparation, hemostasis, wound closure, and post-operative care.</li><li>Perform patient intake, including obtaining medical history, reviewing consent forms, obtaining surgical photographs, and addressing pre-procedure concerns.</li><li>Provide wound care instructions and educate patients on post-procedure expectations.</li><li>Process and handle tissue specimens for pathology evaluation according to protocol.</li><li>Ensure proper documentation of procedures, medications, MIPS and follow-up instructions in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.</li></ul></li><li>Administrative & Patient Support Duties:<ul><li>Schedule pre- and post-operative appointments and assist with patient inquiries.</li><li>Confirm patient insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations if required.</li><li>Accurately complete patient charting and documentation.</li><li>Pathology log management: Act as liaison between physician and patient to deliver of pathology results and to complete communication documentation according to protocol</li></ul></li><li>Compliance & Documentation:<ul><li>Records required information in compliance logs (pathology, biopsy, laboratory, temperature).</li><li>Adhere and maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards.</li><li>Completes mandatory compliance training.</li></ul></li><li>Cross-Training & Additional Responsibilities:<ul><li>May be required to cross-train in the Mohs laboratory to fulfill histotechnology components to the extent allowed by state specific CLIA requirements.</li><li>May be required to cross-train in General and Cosmetic Dermatology.</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul></li></ol>

Qualifications:
