This position blends <strong>student engagement, supervision, mentorship, and community-building</strong>, ensuring that all participants thrive academically, socially, and emotionally throughout the program.</p><p>Counselors live on campus for the duration of the program and serve as positive role models, facilitators of daily activities, and first-line support for student needs. The ideal candidate demonstrates maturity, leadership, empathy, and a commitment to student development.</p><h2><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></h2><h3><strong>Student Engagement & Supervision</strong></h3><ul><li>Provide 24/7 residential supervision on a rotating schedule to ensure student safety and well-being.</li><li>Build a positive, inclusive, and respectful community within assigned residence halls.</li><li>Lead small-group discussions, team-building activities, and evening programming.</li><li>Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting responsibility, integrity, and academic focus.</li></ul><h3><strong>Program Support</strong></h3><ul><li>Assist with daily check-ins, attendance, and movement of students between activities.</li><li>Support instructional staff, coaches, and program directors with logistics and student coordination.</li><li>Facilitate recreational, cultural, and educational activities that enhance the residential experience.</li><li>Uphold all program policies, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.</li></ul><h3><strong>Residential Life Administration</strong></h3><ul><li>Conduct room checks, curfew rounds, and wellness check-ins.</li><li>Document incidents, concerns, or behavioral issues in accordance with program guidelines.</li><li>Communicate promptly and professionally with supervisors regarding student needs or emergencies.</li><li>Maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming residential environment.</li></ul><h2><strong>Qualifications</strong></h2><h3><strong>Required</strong></h3><ul><li>Must be at least 18 years old.</li><li>Prior experience working with youth, camps, residence life, or student leadership.</li><li>Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.</li><li>Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment.</li><li>Willingness to live on campus for the duration of the program and work a flexible schedule.</li></ul><h3><strong>Preferred</strong></h3><ul><li>Experience in K–12 education, athletics, performing arts, or youth development.</li><li>CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).</li><li>Familiarity with HBCU culture and student engagement practices.</li></ul><h2><strong>Work Environment & Expectations</strong></h2><ul><li>This is a <strong>live-in position</strong>; housing and meals are provided during the program.</li><li>Counselors must be available for daytime, evening, and weekend responsibilities.</li><li>Counselors must model exemplary behavior and uphold all program and institutional standards.</li><li>A high level of energy, patience, and adaptability is essential.</li></ul><h2><strong>Compensation</strong></h2><ul><li>Competitive seasonal stipend</li><li>Housing and meals included</li><li>Professional development and leadership experience</li><li>Opportunity to positively impact the lives of emerging scholars and performers</li></ul><p>Powered by JazzHR</p>
