Under the general direction of the Chief Physician and Surgeon (Chief P&S) of Utilization Management (UM), the Physician and Surgeon, Correctional Facility (Internal Medicine/Family Practice) will review medical and surgical health requests for inpatient admission, outpatient treatment and diagnostic services, suggest alternative treatment when appropriate, monitor and mentor utilization outcomes and provide support and feedback for all assigned institutional utilization management activities; interpret radiological and laboratory studies; review reports; attend meetings and participate in staff committees and conferences for the discussion of patient diagnoses and treatment; keeps records; prepare correspondence and reports; identify training needs; develop informal and formal in-service training to medical and nursing staff; investigate appeals. To facilitate the successful reintegration of the individuals in our care back to their communities equipped with the tools to be drug-free, healthy, and employable members of society by providing education, treatment, rehabilitative, and restorative justice programs, all in a safe and humane environment.
