Work is performed under limited supervision. REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: <ul><li>Monitors and directs the operation and maintenance of a central heating plant, or a number of low-pressure plants used in heating individual buildings in order to heat facilities effectively and economically.</li><li>Monitors and maintains HVAC equipment including air handlers, VAVs, Circulator pumps, Chiller systems etc.</li><li>Performs the more skilled and complex maintenance jobs in order to ensure heating plant operates correctly and work is properly done.</li><li>Coordinates their daily maintenance and service with agency facility managers.</li><li>Keeps related records and prepares reports in order to document activities and provide information for administrative review and planning purposes.</li><li>Requisitions supplies and materials needed in the operation and maintenance of the plant and mechanical department in order to ensure availability of needed items.</li></ul> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: <ul><li>Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of heating plant operations and maintenance.</li><li>Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical and building trades and in the operation of steam/electric power plants.</li><li>Knowledge of the mechanical and building trades.</li><li>Ability to use of a variety of power and hand tools.</li><li>Ability to read plans and to work from sketches and specifications.</li><li>Ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of journeymen, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers and inmates.</li><li>Ability to keep records and make reports.</li></ul> MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four (4) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of steam generating plants and maintenance and repair of water, heating and electrical systems in a large commercial or public plant. LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an engineer's license of the class required by the State of Maine for the equipment to be operated. Preference will be given to those with: <ul><li>Experience in residential or commercial HVAC preferred. Candidates with a boiler license or High-Pressure Steam engineer license will be considered.</li><li>Experience in Geothermal, Solar a plus.</li><li>Journeyman Fuel Oil license or Natural gas/Propane gas tech license and or Universal Refrigeration license or a Plumbers license.</li><li>The ability to gain a Boiler Operators license within 6 months.</li><li>Valid state of Maine driver's license.</li></ul> APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Please submit a cover letter along with a current resume and three (3) professional references. Required/Preferred Education/Training:
Required:<ul><li>High School Diploma/GED.</li><li>State of Maine boiler operator's license (Grade C).</li><li>4th Class, Grade B license.</li></ul>Preferred:<ul><li>3rd Class, Grade A license.</li><li>2nd Class, Grade AA license.</li></ul>

Required/Preferred Experience:
Required:<ul><li>5-10 years' experience in industrial/commercial plumping, pipefitting, boiler operation, waste disposal and potable water systems.</li><li>Familiarity with IBC codes.</li><li>Demonstrate ability to work steam, condensate, water and sewer systems.</li><li> Knowledge of steam distribution and condensate recovery systems.</li><li>Working knowledge and experience with operation and Maintenance of gas/oil fired boilers, air compressors and air dryers.</li></ul>Preferred:<ul><li>Maine State plumbing license. </li></ul>
