p>BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES Acts independently and with limited supervision and direction in the following: Supervises the daily protective service operations within the Office of Public Safety; in operational and administrative matters works in close collaboration with the Director of Public Safety, and Assistant Dean.

About the role: The RPS Initiative Director will be responsible for the overall direction and management of RPS's work, including the development of and accountability for the team's goals; supervising the team and managing its budget; developing and holding key relationships and partnerships with policymakers and leaders in the criminal justice, policing, community violence intervention, and crisis response fields; representing Vera as an expert in public safety; navigating complex politics; shaping public opinion; and exploring new strategies to advance public safety writ large. Reporting to the Director of Public Safety, the Supervisory Special Police Officer oversees all uniformed Public Safety personnel in the Office of Public Safety (OPS), including supervisors assigned to a particular squad, all of whom play a critical role in the daily safety experience in our libraries. To become a Certified Emergency Communications Technician II, an employee must complete 24 months in the position and pass the following within 24 months of the date of hire, promotion, or placement in the job: (a) Complete and pass 960 hours of in-house, instructor-led classroom training (covering Technical Security, Call Taking, VCIN, Police Radio, and Fire Rescue Radio); (b) Obtain Certification as a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) Operator. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Public Safety Communications Center (PSCC) is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) who receives and processes emergency and non-emergency calls for Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport, and the Dulles Toll and Access roads.
