The technician assists in various types of procedures such as bronchial alveolar lavage, brushings, endobronchial biopsies, transbronchial biopsies, needle aspiration biopsies, as well as more advanced procedures such as electromagnetic navigation, endobronchial ultrasound, stent placements, and related pulmonary procedures, including pleural procedures, by supporting equipment and supply readiness, set-up, turnover, and transport of equipment and supplies. Set up, assist, and clean up after procedures: The bronchoscopy technician prepares for and assists with bronchoscopies, administration of local anesthesia to patients, explaining the procedure and goal of anesthesia to patients, addressing their concerns and anxieties, with knowledge of its toxicity and adverse effects, monitoring vital signs, and collaborating with the nurse and physician on administration of conscious sedation.
