Qualifications** **Education** + Accredited Program Required: Coding or a combination of education and experience that provides the caregiver with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job or + Preferred: Completion of a formal coding certificate/education program **Experience** + Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Directly related work experience abstracting and coding information using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems **Credentials** + One of the following credentials is **Required within 1 Year** from date of hire: + Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice + Registered Health Information Administrator + Registered Health Information Technician + Certified Coding Associate + Certified Coding Specialist + Certified Outpatient Coder + Certified Professional Coder - Hospital + Certified Inpatient Coder **Skills** + Proficient in MS Office (Required) + Effective written and verbal communication skills (Required) + Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form (Required) + Demonstrated good judgment and decision-making skills (Required) + Good organizational skills and attention to detail (Required) + Knowledge of Medicare/Centers for Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements (Required) + Understands outpatient CCI & OCE edits and modifier assignment in compliance with coding guidelines. **Job Summary** Utilizes knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding software, coding conventions, local medical review policy, APC's, and hospital procedures to code outpatient medical records with ICD-10-CM and CPT4 coding classification systems to ensure accurate, complete and consistent coding for quality data.
