Retail Merchandiser Job Education Requirements

The position requires a mind for analytics and an ability to predict what will be popular with the store's customers. Most employers will expect at least a high school diploma and many prefer a college degree or relevant retail experience. An interest in the store's products and a creative flair are also beneficial in this role.
Retail Merchandiser Job Market
Due to the position's glamorous depiction in Hollywood and the fashion world, often there's steep competition for few positions. This may mean having to work for the merchant in another capacity before moving into the merchandising role. Retail merchandiser is also one of those professions where job duties vary greatly. In applying for these positions, make sure you fully understand the role. Some companies use the title "retail merchandiser" to describe an elevated stock clerk position.
