Dream big and create the future of mobility at Magna Powertrain.<br/><br/><b>Job Responsibilities:</b><br/><br/><b>Scope of Position</b><br/><br/><ul><li>Defines and owns the processes required to manufacture drive train components in high volume production facility utilizing Laser, CD/Resistance, and any other Weld process, equipment and technology in conjunction with a high degree of automation. </li></ul><br/><b>Minimum Requirements</b><br/><br/><ul><li>7+ years of experience in high-volume manufacturing or welding-related roles (Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive preferred).</li><li>Experience with industrial laser welders, CD/Resistance welding machines, servo-driven presses, and automated welding cells preferred.</li><li>Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional studies in Welding, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering is a plus.</li><li>Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills highly recommended.</li><li>Knowledge of automation used in manufacturing (robotics, conveyors, pick-and-place devices).</li><li>Strong oral, written, and presentation skills.</li><li>Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work independently.</li><li>Capable of interfacing with corporate staff, vendors, customers, and employees.</li><li>Knowledge of QS 9000, IATF 16949, or ISO certification processes preferred.</li><li>Experience with plant startups and major product launches is a plus.</li></ul><br/><b>Job Specific Responsibilities</b><br/><br/><ul><li>Analyze customer-supplied weld drawings and provide input/direction to ensure compliance with specifications.</li><li>Support the development and execution of welding processes (Laser, CD/Resistance) for high-volume automated drive train component production.</li><li>Evaluate weld destruct data to identify process improvement opportunities.</li><li>Document manufacturing processes, control plans, reaction plans, PFMEAs, and update as required.</li><li>Define gauging methods and support testing plans for validating weld integrity.</li><li>Support purchasing, supplier quality, and manufacturing during new product launches and ongoing production.</li><li>Collaborate with management, engineering, maintenance, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and process requirements.</li><li>Assist in developing specifications and procuring welding equipment, tooling, gauges, and test equipment.</li><li>Set up welding equipment and support training of production teams on process checks, maintenance, and verification of operation parameters.</li><li>Apply statistical methods to determine machinery and process capabilities.</li><li>Utilize problem-solving techniques (8-Step, DOE, mistake-proofing) to identify and implement solutions.</li><li>Support plant layout and material handling strategies as they relate to welding operations.</li><li>Provide support and lead training activities for shop floor personnel, including operators, inspectors, and maintenance teams.</li><li>Co-lead and support activities for weld validation equipment (e.g., MTS test stands), including setup, testing, training, and documentation.</li><li>Maintain and follow safety and laser compliance requirements, including Laser Safety Officer (LSO) responsibilities under ANSI Z136 standards.</li><li>Participate in CQI-15 Weld Process Audits and IATF initiatives.</li><li>Support continuous improvement, cost reduction projects, and process innovation related to welding operations.</li></ul><br/><b><b>Awareness, Unity, Empowerment:</b></b><br/><br/>At Magna, we believe that a diverse workforce is critical to our success. The Quality Engineer leads the quality team, manages inspection processes, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and supports production through technical expertise in welding, materials, and fabrication processes. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED 5+ years of experience in quality management, welding engineering, or steel fabrication quality roles.

POSITION SUMMARY The Quality Engineer oversees all quality-related functions within a welding and steel fabrication operation. This role ensures that fabricated components meet or exceed customer specifications, industry standards (AWS, ASME, ISO, AISC, etc.), and internal quality requirements. The Quality Engineer leads the quality team, manages inspection processes, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and supports production through technical expertise in welding, materials, and fabrication processes. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Quality Systems & Compliance Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with ISO 9001, AWS D1.1/D1.6, ASME, and other applicable standards. Maintain certifications and compliance documentation. Lead internal and external audits; coordinate corrective actions and follow-up. Welding & Fabrication Quality Oversight Oversee welding procedure development, qualification, and documentation. Ensure welder qualification and requalification according to AWS, ASME, or customer-specific codes. Work closely with engineering to review fabrication drawings, weld symbols, tolerances, and build requirements. Validate material certifications, heat numbers, and traceability for all incoming steel components. Inspection & Testing Manage dimensional inspections, weld inspections, and NDE testing. Ensure inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained. Lead root cause analysis on weld defects, material issues, or nonconforming components. Approve final products before shipment to ensure adherence to customer specifications. Team Leadership & Collaboration Lead and develop quality inspectors and welding inspectors. Provide technical guidance to welders, fabricators, supervisors, and engineering teams. Participate in pre-production planning to ensure quality considerations are integrated from the start. Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders regarding quality requirements and issues. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED 5+ years of experience in quality management, welding engineering, or steel fabrication quality roles. Strong knowledge of welding codes (Specifically AWS D1.1). Experience with steel fabrication processes such as cutting, forming, machining, and assembly. Ability to read fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T. Experience performing or supervising NDE. Strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with root-cause tools (5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC). PREFERRED Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS). Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other QMS requirements. Experience with structural steel standards (AISC). Background in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives. Spanish Speaking is a plus. KEY COMPETENCIES High attention to detail and commitment to product integrity. Strong communication and documentation skills.
