Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Perioperative Surgical Technologist Specialty Lead partners with the RN Specialty Coordinator to organize patient care activities and serves as the primary Surgical Technologist clinical resource to the Operating Room team in the designated specialty(s) to provide high quality surgical care. The Surgical Tech Specialty Lead supports the overall coordination of the surgical specialty and actively collaborates with physicians and staff to facilitate the dynamic environment of perioperative services.

The Surgical Tech Specialty Lead supports the overall coordination of the surgical specialty and actively collaborates with physicians and staff to facilitate the dynamic environment of perioperative services. The Surgical Tech Specialty Lead will also support coordination of competency-based experiences to Surgical Technologist and onboarding of Surgical Technologists at Yale New Haven Hospital. Responsibilities:
<ul style="list-style:none"><li>1. Patient and Family Experience</li><li><ul style="list-style:none"><li>1.1 Role model YNHH Standards of Professional Behavior in all we do: Put patients and families first</li></ul></li><li>2. Staff Engagement</li><li><ul style="list-style:none"><li>2.1 Encourage and mentor surgical technologists with clinical competencies</li></ul></li><li>3. Quality and Safety: Accountability / Expectation</li><li><ul style="list-style:none"><li>3.1 Demonstrates knowledge and implements patient safety and quality improvements for the defined surgical specialty(s)</li></ul></li><li>4. Clinical Care</li><li><ul style="list-style:none"><li>4.1 Serves as the primary surgeon interface for the designated surgical specialty(s)</li></ul></li><li>5. Financial Management</li><li><ul style="list-style:none"><li>5.1 Oversight of the OR throughput including first case start time and turn-around time</li></ul></li></ul>

Qualifications:
EDUCATION Graduation from an accredited School of Surgical Technology. Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred. EXPERIENCE Minimum 2 years Surgical Technician experience. LICENSURE Preferred Surgical Technology Certification or attained within one year of hire into role. SPECIAL SKILLS Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills, maintains a high level of customer service, prioritizes needs of department and surgical specialty, and organizes operational efficiencies. PHYSICAL DEMAND Requires prolonged standing; walking; use of sight, hearing, and touch; moving/lifting of patients and instruments and equipment. Position staffing requirements reference 75% clinical assignments and 25% operational assignments as directed by management and departmental staffing needs.
