<h5>Marketing Communications Student Intern | University of Kansas </h5>As a marketing communications intern, you'll get hands-on training about everything it takes to run a communications and public relations office. This position is fast-paced and requires weekly blogging, daily social media content creation and engagement and event management support as needed. You'll work as part of the communications team, with the director of communications, communications coordinator, video producer and graphic designer. You'll research and write about business-related topics. The position provides the opportunity for experience in multiple aspects of a busy marketing communications office. The primary focus of the position is strategic communication skills, but a knowledge of digital analytics would be helpful. By the end of this time, you will have a diverse portfolio of work samples and experiences. Throughout their employment, student employees will maintain and manifest positive actions that align with and support the Code of Conduct for the School of Business. 45% - Write news and feature articles, weekly blog posts and other strategic writing as needed. Research and interview contacts for articles. Pitch story ideas to communications team. 35% - Write and brainstorm social media content. Curate social media content. Assist in community management and social media strategy. 10% - Provide event marketing and logistic support. 5% - Assist in editing and proofreading collateral. 5% - Perform other marketing and PR tasks as assigned. Required Qualifications: Journalism (any of the four concentrations), marketing, English and/or communications studies major. Strong social media skills (creating content, community management, ability to tailor messages for each platform). Writing and interviewing experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong editing/proofreading skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Willingness to perform a variety of duties. Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet short deadlines. Working knowledge of AP style. Preferred Qualifications: At least two semesters left prior to graduation. Basic photography and videography skills. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suites. Knowledge of business journalism. Knowledge of Google and/or other web analytics platforms. Job Description SUMMARY: The Leadership Development Specialist (Part-Time Contractor) is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting high-impact professional learning experiences for school and district leaders. This role focuses on building leadership capacity through the creation of asynchronous learning assets, coaching resources, and strategic content aligned to instructional excellence, leadership frameworks, and school improvement priorities. This individual brings deep experience in school leadership and instructional coaching and is skilled at translating research and best practices into practical, actionable tools that improve educator practice and student outcomes. This is a part-time contract role running from April through December, with the option to extend based on project needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties. <ul><li>Design and develop high-quality asynchronous learning experiences, including e-learning courses, toolkits, job aids, templates, and leadership resources.</li><li>Translate instructional frameworks, leadership competencies (e.g., PSEL, K12 Leadership Excellence Framework), and organizational priorities into practical, actionable content for school and district leaders.</li><li>Create implementation-focused resources that support leaders in applying best practices in areas such as instructional coaching, data-driven instruction, observation and feedback cycles, and school improvement planning.</li><li>Collaborate with subject matter experts, academic teams, and stakeholders to gather insights and ensure content accuracy, relevance, and alignment.</li><li>Partner with production and design teams to develop engaging multimedia learning experiences (e.g., interactive modules, videos, scenario-based learning).</li><li>Review, revise, and enhance existing professional learning content to ensure coherence, alignment, and impact across the leadership development portfolio.</li><li>Apply adult learning theory and microlearning design principles to create engaging, accessible, and effective asynchronous content.</li><li>Ensure all materials are aligned to improving educator practice and measurable outcomes.</li><li>Contribute to the development of a centralized repository of leadership resources and learning pathways (e.g., onboarding, bootcamps, PLC supports).</li><li>Stay current on trends in instructional leadership, coaching, and state accountability frameworks to ensure content remains relevant and forward-looking.</li><li>And other duties as assigned.</li></ul> Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: <ul><li>Two (2) to five (5) years of related experience in talent development, educational training, or related position, including experience at the school or district leadership level (e.g., principal, assistant principal, instructional coach, or district leader)</li></ul><ul><li>Understanding of effective training methodologies and a true passion for working with adult learners</li><li>Demonstrated expertise in instructional coaching and/or mentoring school leaders</li><li>Deep understanding of instructional best practices, observation and feedback cycles, and data-driven instruction</li><li>Experience developing professional learning content, curriculum, or instructional materials for adult learners</li><li>Strong ability to translate complex concepts into clear, practical, and actionable resources</li><li>Microsoft Office 365; Web proficiency.</li><li>Ability to clear required background check</li></ul> Certificates and Licenses: None required.
