Primary ways the Surgical Technician II will contribute to the team: • Cares for animals including feeding, cleaning and surgery support responsibilities • Follows protocol to ensure the health and welfare of the animals in care • Surgery support tasks including preparation of surgical instruments and supplies for surgeons use, operate the autoclaves, calibration of animal weight scales, disinfecting surgery equipment, transfer of animals, and weighing animals • Successfully performs rodent catheterization and soft tissue removal surgeries • Works with managers in the development of new surgical models • Works with managers in the implementation of new and better surgical techniques • Trains new Support Technicians and Surgeons • Suggests improvements to work instructions in accordance with the 3 Rs (Refine, Replace and Reduce). The person in this role will need to feel passionate about working with animals, enjoy and excel at organization, and support and maintain a clean, safe and compliant working environment.
