The surgical technologist works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures and to ensure that operating room equipment functions properly. A surgical technologist possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique, combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physicians performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The surgical technologist assists in patient care and preparation of the surgical patient by performance of routine and delegated duties. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care and be accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization. Knows the operation of all sterilizing equipment.
Works under the supervision of a surgeon to ensure a safe environment to maximize patient safety.
Possesses knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique.
Possesses knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and surgical instruments.
Prepares the sterile setup for the appropriate procedure and anticipates the needs of the surgeons.
Knows and assists with proper care maintenance and replacement of surgical instruments.
Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures.
Initiates appropriate action in crisis and/or emergency situations.
Provides appropriate patient care under direct supervision of Registered Nurse and/or Physician.
Effectively communicates with surgical team members regarding changes to equipment, products, instruments, new technology, surgeon preferences, staffing, and scheduling.
Promotes and shares knowledge in their area of expertise. Promotes an environment of safety and quality. Communicates concerns appropriately and timely.
Updates and approves preference cards as needed.
Participates in policy and procedure development and updates as requested.
Attends and/or completes required education.
Works with facility educator and staff to maintain competencies.
Works in collaboration with the team and materials management to achieve correct par levels and monitors outdates closely.Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. GED or High School Diploma preferred. Graduate of approved school of Technology preferred.CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS
Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within one year from date of hire preferred. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) obtained from an accredited central supply technology training program within 1 year from date of hire required.Previous Experience Requirements
Previous clinical experience preferred.SKILLS
Language Skills - Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language required.Other Certifications

--------The Sterile Processing Technician will perform various duties in the cleaning, organizing, wrapping, and sterilizing of instruments and supplies used in surgery and other departments throughout the facility. Instruments will be processed in a timely manner and returned to the appropriate departments. They must be accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization. ----------------### Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities<ul><li>Knows the operation of all sterilizing equipment per policy, procedure, and manufacturers instruction for use.</li><li>Performs the cleaning, assembling, and packing of instruments per policy, procedure, and manufacturers instruction for use.</li><li>Performs decontamination of dirty instrumentation to include soaking, mechanical cleaning, rinsing, use of the sonic washer, and the Decontamination Washer per policy, procedure, and manufacturers instruction for use.</li><li>Performs a visual inspection of each instrument for the presence of bioburden pre and post washing.</li><li>Performs appropriate maintenance checks and procedures for all instruments.</li><li>Assembles and packages specified instrument sets to include placement of appropriate indicators for sterilization.</li><li>Understands aseptic techniques used in steam, ETO, and low temperature sterilization process.</li><li>Collaborates with physicians and various departments to provide sterile supplies in a timely manner.</li><li>Advocates and maintains a safe environment by using appropriate PPE when handling dirty instrumentation.</li><li>Responsible for maintaining a safe environment during preparation, sterilization, and delivery of sterile instruments to the Operating Rooms.</li><li>Follows a series of checks that all sterilization tapes and tags reflect the sterilization process has successfully been completed.</li><li>Maintains a safe environment for self and others by following standards of practice with all sterilization equipment.</li></ul>### Hours and ScheduleHours will be dependent on patient census and workload.
