He/she will be responsible for the overall leadership of IDEX's environmental compliance program. This position has global responsibilities - - IDEX has over 50 businesses, over 9,000 employees, and operations in over 20 countries.The position will be hybrid, with remote working on Mondays and Fridays and office working Tuesday through Thursday (at IDEX's corporate office in Northbrook, IL), when not traveling, to foster better collaboration, connection, and innovation. Remote workers may be considered with the expectation that they travel to the Northbrook office with some regularity. This position will require frequent travel to IDEX business units globally.This position leads the development of solutions, programs, and plans for continuous improvement in environmental performance, providing support to the Corporate team and all IDEX business units. The role will involve working collaboratively with business unit professionals to help implement best practices to improve performance and compliance and to reduce environmental compliance risk. The successful candidate will be able to engage individuals in proactive problem-solving, provide key input to senior leadership to support joint decision making, and act as a subject matter expert on cross-functional initiatives and projects for the organization globally. Environmental compliance is a key component of IDEX's environmental sustainability strategy, and the successful candidate will also work collaboratively with sustainability team on certain environmental sustainability operations initiatives and programs.Position Responsibilities<ul><li>Serve as a subject matter expert for IDEX, acting as resource to its business units in the area of environmental compliance, strategy, risk and impact reduction, and auditing.</li><li>In partnership with external consultants and internal EHS professionals in various regions / businesses, develop and implement environmental policies, procedures, programs, and strategies in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations; monitor business unit compliance with policies, procedures and programs.</li><li>Continue to build IDEX's environmental compliance audit program across the enterprise using a risk-based approach; perform environmental compliance audits and work with the facility-based personnel to follow-up on corrective actions to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and improve performance.</li><li>Lead and/or provide oversight for corporate management of environmental enterprise requirements for permitting, waste management, vendor assessment, shipping/receiving/storing hazardous material and waste, chemical management/approval/reporting, remedial programs, and environmental reserves.</li><li>Drive thorough environmental incident reviews, sharing of learnings, and follow up/closure; use learnings from events to support strategy and drive continuous improvement across the enterprise; lead investigations of select spills/releases, exceedances, or potentially severe environmental events.</li><li>Train, mentor, and develop EHS professionals at the business units with respect to environmental programs, requirements, risks, and risk mitigation/reduction.</li><li>Lead engagement with applicable regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders when required; represent IDEX and its business units with external stakeholders when required.</li><li>Monitor and understand emerging trends in environmental compliance programs and requirements; identify and communicate potential impacts; develop short and long term strategies to ensure adequate preparedness and response; implement use of electronic storage and management of key IDEX environmental recordkeeping initiatives.</li><li>Partner with stakeholders to conduct due diligence reviews on potential acquisition targets; determine processes to integrate and train new acquisitions, and lead environmental compliance integration efforts.</li><li>Oversight of environmental consulting, engineering firms, and environmental law firms, as well as specialty vendors. Develop relationships to understand and drive efficiency across the IDEX enterprise.</li><li>Provide assistance with IDEX's sustainability programming, where/when needed, acting as a key partner in identifying and developing processes and procedures to track meeting IDEX goals.</li><li>Identify opportunities for use and manage environmental applications within EHS software system, Benchmark Gensuite; manage implementation and roll out of said uses.</li><li>Support the development of key performance metrics (KPIs) for the organization to address areas of potential opportunity or concern; track performance of identified metrics with a goal of year over year progress.</li><li>Lead audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and improve performance.</li><li>Partner with and manage external consultants and contractors</li><li>Execute ad hoc duties, as required.</li></ul>Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience<ul><li>Minimum of 10+ years of related experience required, including leadership role(s) in managing environmental compliance programs. Prior experience in a multi-site and global manufacturing environment is required.</li><li>Bachelor's degree or higher required.</li><li>Genuine interest and passion for environmental issues, relevant regulations, and environmental sustainability.</li><li>Advanced knowledge of global environmental regulations in the following jurisdictions: U.S., Canada, Europe, India and China.</li><li>Experience evaluating and managing external environmental consultants or engineering firms.</li><li>Experience conducting risk assessments and environmental audits.</li><li>Experience with energy, waste, and water reduction strategies and projects preferred.</li><li>Demonstrated experience with engaging people across organizations and international locations to build a culture of environmental compliance and excellence.</li><li>A team player, with the ability to think conceptually, flexibly, and strategically.</li><li>Solid project management experience and skills.</li><li>Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills.</li><li>Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally without restriction, up to 40% of the time.</li></ul>Are you ready to join a different kind of company where our people, our culture, and our commitments are centered around providing trusted solutions that improve lives around the world?Total RewardsThe compensation range for this position is $124,000.00 - $186,000.00, depending on experience.
