You should bring proven experience in a technical sales or sales engineering role, ideally within scientific instrumentation or advanced technology environments. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential, along with the ability to clearly translate complex technical concepts into customer value. We expect strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, as well as the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You must be willing to travel as needed and have excellent command of English, both written and spoken.We also appreciate candidates who have a background in scientific research or R&D, as well as documented experience in technical sales of scientific instrumentation. Pay Range Information:
The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Serve as a writer for proposal technical and management volumes primarily in support of Defense, Aerospace and other government agency opportunities</li><li>Research, organize, draft, and edit technical proposals</li><li>Draft compelling and compliant technical content</li><li>Gather information in a variety of ways such as brainstorming sessions, white-boarding, interviews, research, consolidation of previously developed written materials, and translate it into original text</li><li>Edit and refine written or oral inputs from technical Subject Matter Experts (SME) and Sector Leads into winning proposal content</li><li>Tailor/re-purpose archived content to meet similar requirements</li><li>Draft responses to Government Requests for Information (RFI) or Sources Sought (SS), working either independently using archived information or conducting research, or as part of a team with an assigned technical SME</li><li>Support AVIAN Director of Proposals and the proposal team throughout the proposal process   </li><li>Assist in proposal strategy development; define, and help articulate “win themes”, strengths, and discriminators</li><li>Create/Revise/Tailor proposal artifacts</li><li>Adhere to proposal schedule and deadlines</li><li>Ensure that AVIAN proposals are grammatically correct and maintain a consistent tone or voice</li><li>Identify and edit the most relevant past performance examples and resumes</li><li>Participate in proposal phases, activities, and milestones including the kickoff meeting, teammate meetings, data calls, brainstorming sessions, proposal reviews</li><li>Assist in execution of Color Team recovery plans and final editing of final version</li><li>Produce narrative sections that reflect win strategy and address all evaluation factors and criteria</li></ul>

Qualifications:

This role focuses on systems engineering, certification support, and technical documentation, rather than hands‑on software development or testing.The Avionics Systems Engineer supports engineering and certification efforts across U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) aviation platforms, with an emphasis on Performance Based Navigation (PBN), RNAV/RNP, and CNS/ATM capabilities. The incumbent works under the guidance of a senior systems or lead engineer and contributes to the review and assessment of avionics systems, requirements, and engineering artifacts supporting airworthiness and certification activities.Position Type: Full-TimeSalary: $122k-$165k annually (depending on experience) Work Location: Full-time onsite with some telework (see onsite requirements below)**On-site Requirements: This position is full-time onsite at Patuxent River, MD and may be eligible for reoccurring telework, but will require an onsite work greater than or equal to 85% of the work week”Essential Functions:Avionics Systems & Certification Analysis<ul><li>Supports the evaluation of avionics systems and associated software artifacts to assess: </li></ul><ul><li><ul><li>System behavior and functional performance</li><li>Data integrity as it relates to operational use and certification</li><li>Interfaces and information flow between subsystems</li></ul></li><li>Reviews engineering artifacts, system outputs, and analysis products to identify discrepancies, risks, or areas requiring clarification.</li></ul>Engineering Support to Certification Activities<ul><li>Assists in certification and compliance efforts for systems pursuing RNAV, RNP, and related CNS/ATM approvals by: </li><li><ul><li>Reviewing requirements, design documentation, and compliance evidence</li><li>Supporting certification documentation and compliance matrices</li><li>Assisting in verification and validation (V&V) assessment reviews</li><li>Supporting test planning activities from a systems and requirements perspective</li></ul></li><li>Contributes to engineering and airworthiness assessments under the direction of senior engineers.</li></ul>Technical Documentation & Engineering Artifacts<ul><li>Develops and supports technical documentation, including: </li><li><ul><li>Engineering assessments and analysis summaries</li><li>Test plans, procedures, and reports</li><li>Certification and compliance support documentation</li></ul></li><li>Ensures documentation is technically accurate, clearly written, traceable to requirements, and suitable for government review.</li></ul>Systems Engineering Support<ul><li>Participates in systems engineering activities across the system lifecycle, including: </li><li><ul><li>Requirements review and decomposition</li><li>Design and interface evaluation support</li><li>Integration and verification support from a systems perspective</li></ul></li><li>Assists in identifying technical and certification risks related to avionics system behavior, interfaces, and data handling.</li></ul>Team and IPT Support<ul><li>Works within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to support multi‑platform avionics engineering efforts.</li><li>Coordinates with: </li><li><ul><li>Senior systems and certification engineers</li><li>Government program offices and stakeholders</li><li>Software developers, integrators, and test organizations</li></ul></li><li>May provide informal guidance to junior team members or support task execution under supervision.</li></ul>RequirementsRequired:<ul><li>Knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures and logical design</li><li>Proficiency in high-order programming languages</li><li>Educational exposure to assembly language concepts</li><li>Ability to analyze complex technical problems and interpret data outputs</li><li>Technical writing skills sufficient to document engineering analyses and findings</li><li>Basic understanding of avionics systems or aerospace engineering principles</li><li>Experience in software development, data analysis, or systems engineering (academic or professional)</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work in a technical team environment</li></ul>Desired:<ul><li>Experience analyzing software behavior or system-level data flows</li><li>Familiarity with data and control coupling concepts</li><li>Experience working in team-based engineering environments (e.g., IPTs)</li><li>Basic understanding of mission or flight planning systems</li><li>Familiarity with systems engineering processes (e.g., SETR)</li><li>Exposure to civil or military avionics programs</li></ul>Education:Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline required.Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance required.
