This job leads transportation efforts, collaborates with carriers, both internal and external, customers, planners, and dispatchers to ensure the transportation of customer products safely, effectively and securely across the network. This position manages managers. The Sr. Mgr. will coach and mentor the team members on fundamental behaviors, safety, quality, best operational and process methods, and continuous improvement. The Sr. Mgr. will lead implementation of process improvements through problem solving or input from the team to improve safety, quality and/or profitability; and coach team members to ensure on-time delivery of products that meet or exceed world-class (internal/external) expectations.Functions<ul><li>Identify new business opportunities and grow business revenues and margins with existing customers.</li><li>Build a strong relationship with customer key contacts through listening and understanding our customer's environment.</li><li>Develop customer profile with business issues, opportunities, information flow, competitor environment, review process, contract, etc.</li><li>Present complete proposals and value solutions for our customers.</li><li>Develop and implement new transportation systems in partnership with IT</li><li>Manage asset management program including equipment procurement and maintenance</li><li>Drive process for carrier and mode selection to optimize freight spend.</li><li>Leads implementation of company programs.</li><li>Reviews tactical aspects of business profile, indexes, KPI results and other data to up-sell additional solutions.</li><li>Uses Lean Six Sigma tools to make decisions and improve operational efficiency.</li><li>Establishes measurements that positively impact safety, quality and financial performance.</li><li>Oversees team of local drivers and route planner(s) to ensure customer product is safely and securely transported within the network.</li><li>Builds relationships with common carriers, manages their performance, and leverages these relationships to ensure all cost and quality requirements are met.</li><li>Manages transportation resources to ensure compliance with all policies, processes, and procedures required by Kenco, its customer, and all applicable regulatory agencies.</li><li>Responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting of transportation metrics to drive continua improvement and cost reduction initiatives related to assigned areas of responsibility and/or throughout the entire network.</li><li>Supports the distribution network to ensure that all customer goals are met.</li><li>Sr. Mgr. may have one customer and multiple sites or multiple customers</li><li>Sr. Mgr. may spend some of their time supporting Transportation Management (e.g., starting an intermodal transportation business)</li><li>Sr. Mgr. may lead the KTS Safety function</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Transportation or related equivalent years of experience required. Equivalent years of experience is defined as one year of professional experience for each year of college requested.</li><li>Minimum of 6-8 years related experience and/or training in a distribution or transportation environment. The Fleet Manager is a key operations link between the organization, drivers, and customers. The Fleet Manger coaches and mentors a group of experienced drivers and achieves specific customer service and key company goals. The Fleet Manager will coordinate and communicate with customers related to the fleet activity to maximize utilization of drivers and company assets. This is an entry-level manager position managing an operation(s) limited in scope. Responsibilities<ul><li>Manage Dedicated Fleet of Professional Drivers</li><li>Assist in Managing messaging for overall operations</li><li>Responsible for Service Failures (Driver, Dispatch, Planning), Communication, Equipment, Utilization, Driver Turnover, Fuel (MPG, out of network, idle time of equipment, out of route miles), Safety (Safety Initiative, Accidents, Worker’s Comp, Random Drug), Maintenance (PM Services, Equipment Inspections)</li><li>Track and trace the trucks in the morning and through the day. </li><li>Track and manage home time requests in accordance with accounts expectations.  </li><li>⁠Maintain positive and productive communication with drivers to deliver on time, prevent service failures, and reduce turnover. </li><li>Receive ETAs and PTAs and manage throughout the day. </li><li>Receive confirmations of load assignments. </li><li>Develop an effective working relationship with assigned professional drivers and understand the needs and performance of each professional driver.  </li><li>Communicate and establish expectations for performance, conduct, and safety, and provide ongoing feedback for the professional driver. </li><li>Monitor and trace loads so that follow up can be made to customers regarding late pickups and or deliveries, as well as any other load changes that may occur. </li><li>Work with other internal departments to resolve customer or company issues when necessary. </li><li>Follow established procedures and best practices to ensure consistency and quality. </li><li>Manage Driver PM Schedules for both tractor and trailers</li><li>Assist drivers with payroll needs, Advances, Fuel issues</li><li>Respond to all driver messages in a timely manner</li><li>Accurately update AS400 and/or TMW data </li></ul>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities<ul><li>Ability to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Products  </li><li>Must be able to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically  </li><li>Knowledge of DOT regulations and Driver HOS necessary  </li><li>Ability to work in a fast paced and always changing environment  </li><li>Ability to manage people effectively</li><li>Ability to be self-motivated and work unsupervised </li></ul>Education/Experience<ul><li>High School Diploma or equivalent required  </li><li>Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics or other closely related field is preferred  </li><li>AS400 and/or TMW experience is preferred but not required  </li><li>0-3 Years Management Experience or other similar leadership role  </li><li>Transportation experience preferred </li></ul>Competitive CompensationWe believe in rewarding excellence.
