Instructions for Interested Volunteers Thank you for your interest in becoming a reading tutor and making a lasting impact in a child's life. To ensure the safety and success of our students, all volunteers and paid tutors must complete the following steps: <ol><li>Completethe Volunteer Application</li></ol> Submit the online volunteer application in full. Please ensure all contact information and availability details are accurate. <ol><li>Required Documentation</li></ol> Applicants may be asked to upload or submit additional documents, including: <ul><li>A current résumé or brief summary of relevant experience (preferred format: PDF or Word) </li><li>Proof of eligibility to work in the United States, if applicable </li></ul><ol><li>Background Check (Required)</li></ol> All volunteers and paid tutors must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to placement. This includes: <ul><li>Criminal background screening </li><li>Adult abuse registry check</li><li>Child abuse and neglect registry check</li></ul>Background checks are required to protect the children and families we serve and are conducted in accordance with state and federal regulations. <ol><li>Training Requirement</li></ol> All tutors must complete paid training prior to working with students. Training will include: <ul><li>Structured literacy and dyslexia-informed instruction </li><li>Child safety and confidentiality guidelines </li><li>Program expectations and tutoring protocols </li></ul><ol><li>Time Commitment</li></ol> Volunteers must be available for a minimum of six hours per week, providing one-hour tutoring sessions per student. Consistency is essential for student progress. <ol><li>Tutoring Format & Location</li></ol><ul><li>Hybrid and in-person tutoring opportunities are available </li><li>In-person tutoring is offered at designated site locations for volunteers residing in the Omaha NE, Greater Omaha and State of NE</li></ul>Once all requirements are completed and approved, volunteers will be matched with students based on availability and program needs.
