Location: Adena Mansion and Gardens at 847 Adena Rd, Chillicothe, OH 45601Reports to: Historic Site Manager, Adena Mansion & GardensAbout Ohio History Connection:The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio's stories. Chartered in 1885, the OHC carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history. This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.Summary:Volunteers will work with visitors of different backgrounds and ages to foster a welcoming and engaging environment for all who visit the site and embrace our core values through their work. Volunteers may assist in the following roles:Interpretation/ Tour Guide - Lead visitors through the historic site sharing the history of the site and its importanceDemonstration - Provide hands-on interpretive information about 19th century tradesEvent Support - Assist with special events, including set-up, guest assistance, and clean upGardening Crew - Help maintain the site's interpretive gardensEssential Functions:<ul><li style="line-height:normal">Performing informal interpretation - roving and meeting visitors within the site </li><li style="line-height:normal">Conducting scheduled tours for guests </li><li style="line-height:normal">Greeting visitors at the front desk of the museum.</li><li style="line-height:normal">Providing information and orientation to the site and home</li><li style="line-height:normal">Answering questions about Adena Mansion and Gardens </li><li style="line-height:normal">Setting up the site(s) for special programming and events.</li><li style="line-height:normal">Providing staff support for special events and programming such as open houses. </li><li style="line-height:normal">Working weekend and occasional evening shifts.</li><li style="line-height:normal">Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Required Education, Skills, Experience:<ul><li style="line-height:normal">Must be at least 18 years or older</li></ul>Required Competencies:<ul><li style="line-height:normal">Works well both independently and with and in support of colleagues to complete work.</li><li style="line-height:normal">Demonstrates a potential to communicate well in written and verbal communications, including informal mediums like email and meetings.</li><li style="line-height:normal">Experience interacting with school-aged children. </li></ul>Other Requirements:<ul><li style="line-height:normal">Must complete a background check and volunteer onboarding paperwork</li><li style="line-height:normal">Must attend professional development and volunteer meetings as requested</li><li style="line-height:normal">Must create an account and log volunteer hours via <a href="https://www.trackitforward.com/site/ohio-history-connection" rel="nofollow">Track It Forward</a></li></ul>Education and Experience Outcomes:<ul><li style="line-height:normal">Volunteers will receive training for their roles, including informal interpretive training focusing on providing information in an engaging and relatable way so that visitors may leave retaining information they learned or with a memorable experience.</li><li style="line-height:normal">Volunteers will learn and appreciate the unique history of the Adena Mansion and Gardens </li></ul>Application InstructionsTo apply, visit www/ohiohistory.org/jobs and use the Applicant Tracking System to apply.
