The Volunteer and Events Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers for United Way’s ReadingPals early literacy initiative, as well as supporting additional volunteer-driven projects. Conduct training sessions for new and returning volunteers, including topics such as literacy instruction, mentoring best practices, social-emotional learning, curriculum implementation, English language learners, and diversity awareness.

<div><strong>Position Description:</strong></div><div><strong>Position Title: </strong>Volunteer and Events Coordinator<br/><strong>Date:   </strong>March 2026</div><div><br/></div><div><strong>Reports to:</strong> Executive Director, United Way of Suwannee Valley.</div><div><br/></div><div><strong>Position Summary:<br/></strong><br/></div><div>The Volunteer and Events Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers for United Way’s ReadingPals early literacy initiative, as well as supporting additional volunteer-driven projects. This role places a strong emphasis on developing and executing strategic recruitment plans to engage volunteers who serve kindergarten students in Columbia, Hamilton, and Suwannee Counties.<br/><br/></div><div>The coordinator works collaboratively with community partners, including United Way committees to ensure program success. In addition, this position oversees the planning and execution of United Way events and supports the organization’s overall marketing and outreach efforts.</div><div>The ideal candidate is a self-starter who demonstrates excellent customer service, strong listening and communication skills, and the ability to build relationships, solicit sponsorships, and work effectively in a team environment.</div><div><br/><strong>Key Responsibilities:<br/></strong><br/></div><div><strong>Event Planning and Execution:</strong></div><ul><li>Plan, coordinate, and execute United Way events throughout the year, from concept to completion.</li><li>Secure sponsorships, including cash contributions and in-kind donations.</li><li>Coordinate silent auction procurement and management.<br/><br/></li></ul><div><strong>Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement (ReadingPals Program):</strong></div><ul><li>Develop and implement effective volunteer recruitment strategies targeting workplace campaigns, parent-teacher organizations, civic groups, and faith-based communities.</li><li>Conduct training sessions for new and returning volunteers, including topics such as literacy instruction, mentoring best practices, social-emotional learning, curriculum implementation, English language learners, and diversity awareness.</li><li>Provide ongoing stewardship and engagement opportunities to deepen volunteer connection to United Way’s mission.</li><li>Plan and coordinate volunteer activities that support education initiatives.</li><li>Research and maintain relationships with corporate and community partners.</li><li>Develop and distribute promotional materials to support volunteer recruitment.</li><li>Promote ReadingPals through traditional and digital media channels, including social media platforms and email marketing.<br/><br/></li></ul><div><strong>Marketing and Communications:</strong></div><ul><li>Develop and implement engaging content to enhance brand awareness and promote United Way initiatives.</li><li>Support the execution of communication strategies to ensure consistent messaging and branding.</li><li>Write and distribute press releases and media advisories.</li><li>Manage and grow the organization’s presence across social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and others.</li><li>Create and maintain content for newsletters, websites, and marketing materials.</li><li>Integrate digital communications into overall marketing efforts.</li><li>Monitor and analyze website and social media metrics to improve performance and engagement.</li><li>Stay informed of best practices within the United Way network.<br/><br/></li></ul><div><strong>Volunteer Administration:</strong></div><ul><li>Maintain and update the volunteer database, including tracking participation and committee involvement.</li><li>Plan and implement volunteer recognition initiatives, including:<ul><li>Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event.</li><li>Quarterly volunteer e-newsletters.<br/><br/></li></ul></li></ul><div><strong>General Responsibilities:</strong></div><ul><li>Perform additional duties as assigned.</li><li>Demonstrate a strong commitment to United Way’s Code of Conduct.</li><li>Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.</li><li>Contribute to a collaborative team environment and support organizational goals.</li><li>Provide leadership through professionalism, initiative, and knowledge sharing.<br/><br/></li></ul><div><strong>Position Relationships:</strong></div><ul><li><strong>External:</strong> General public, volunteers, school personnel, community partners, and vendors.</li><li><strong>Internal:</strong> Reports to Executive Director; collaborates with United Way staff and volunteers.</li></ul><div><br/><strong>Qualifications and Requirements:</strong></div><ul><li>High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.</li><li>Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience.</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong grammar and proofreading abilities (required).</li><li>Strong organizational and time management skills.</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design/communication tools such as Canva.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed goals.</li><li>Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.</li><li>Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making.</li><li>Willingness to actively support and participate in United Way programs and events.</li><li>Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed, with a minimum expectation of two (2) times per month.</li></ul>

The rate of pay is $17.67/hr.</p><p>Adult Education assists eligible students in developing basic skills that can be used to obtain employment and enable their success in college, the community, and the workplace. Adult Education provides a supportive, nurturing environment with lots of teacher attention; classes that start where the student is now and helps them get to the next level; offers several choices for many classes that prepare the student for real jobs; and ensures inclusion and belonging with classes that meet the needs of all.</p><p>The Part-time Instructional Specialist will be responsible for supporting students in the Santa Fe College Adult Education program through academic and career readiness instruction that prepares students for further educational training, GED testing, and careers. They are also responsible for providing intake, retention, and transition activities for students, as well as assisting the Coordinator in compiling data for program entry and state reporting.</p><p>Job Description</p><p>Responsibilities and duties include:</p><ul><li><p>Provides intake, assessment, retention, and transition activities for students.</p></li><li><p>Supports General Education Development students in preparation for the GED tests and in meeting GED testing requirements.</p></li><li><p>Delivers instruction to Adult Education students following curriculum guidelines and career content.</p></li><li><p>Collaborates with students and staff in the Integrated Education and Training Program (IET) to meet program guidelines.</p></li><li><p>Prepares special reports, summaries, or replies to inquiries by compiling data and statistics from various departmental resources.</p></li><li><p>Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and student service.</p></li><li><p>Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.</p></li><li><p>Appropriately documents student progress and maintains accurate records, such as attendance, grading, progress records, and achievement of student learning outcomes.</p></li><li><p>Attends recruiting events internally and externally to recruit eligible students to the program.</p></li><li><p>Participates in marketing and communications for Adult Education, to include creating and dispersing fliers, web content, and more.</p></li><li><p>May supervise and evaluate PT instructors, student employees, volunteers, and/or temporary employees.</p></li><li><p>Attends professional development workshops and trainings as needed.</p></li><li><p>Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.</p></li><li><p>Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.</p></li><li><p>Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.</p></li><li><p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p></li></ul><p>Reports to: Professor and Coordinator, Adult Basic Education</p><p>QUALIFICATIONS</p><p>Required: An associate's degree with two (2) years of related experience working with individuals in need of basic academic skills and/or a combination of related education and experience equal to four (4) years.</p><p>Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.</p><p>Preferred: Experience instructing diverse populations and computer skills, as well as previous experience working within an Adult Education program.</p><p>General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p><ul><li><p>Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.</p></li><li><p>Adaptability to Change \u2013 able to be flexible and supportive, able to positively and proactively assimilate change in rapid growth environment.</p></li><li><p>Communication \u2013 able to effectively communicate in a professional, diplomatic, empathetic, and tactful manner using preferred method and level as applicable to the job.</p></li><li><p>Critical Thinking & Judgement -
