The Sustainability & Stewardship Coordinator leads and coordinates the organization's sustainability efforts, working across departments to reduce environmental impact and support long-term stewardship of the mountain. This role focuses on three key areas: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving land health, and increasing community awareness of climate action and ecosystem stewardship. Success in this role depends on strong cross-department collaboration, clear communication, and shared ownership of sustainability initiatives. Reporting & Collaboration <ul><li>Reports to the Community Impact Manager and is primarily based at the recreation area </li><li>Partners closely with the Director of Mountain Operations on land management, restoration efforts, and other cross-departmental projects </li><li>Works across departments to coordinate, align, and advance sustainability initiatives </li><li>Engages internal teams and external partners to build shared ownership and support for sustainability efforts </li></ul>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB Greenhouse Gas Reduction Projects (40%)<ul><li>Identify and support implementation of key greenhouse gas reduction projects with internal departments and partners </li><li>Track and report on project progress and outcomes </li><li>Train and supervise seasonal staff and volunteers to implement waste diversion systems </li><li>Foster cross-departmental engagement and accountability for sustainability initiatives </li><li>Support planning and implementation of solar development projects </li><li>Conduct greenhouse gas emissions inventories and report progress in alignment with the NSAA Climate Challenge </li><li>Coordinate participation in Idaho Power energy incentive programs and track outcomes </li></ul>Land Management (40%)<ul><li>Manage noxious weed treatment in coordination with the Director of Mountain Operations </li><li>Train and supervise seasonal staff and volunteers in weed management and habitat restoration </li><li>Maintain treatment records in compliance with USFS policy </li><li>Collaborate with Mountain Operations to reduce weed spread and monitor new populations </li><li>Manage seed collection, propagation, and planting programs with regional partners </li><li>Plan and implement reseeding and planting efforts on construction and restoration sites </li></ul>Community Outreach (10%)<ul><li>Develop and maintain partnerships with universities, agencies, and community organizations </li><li>Represent Bogus Basin at sustainability and conservation events </li><li>Support development of marketing and educational materials </li><li>Plan and execute community sustainability events, including National Public Lands Day </li></ul>Other Job Duties (~10-15%)<ul><li>Apply for and manage grants </li><li>Track program metrics and outcomes </li><li>Manage the department's operating budget </li><li>Regularly report on sustainability initiatives to leadership and at staff meetings </li></ul>Requirements Education & Experience Requirements<ul><li>Required: Degree in sustainability, ecology, biology, botany/horticulture, natural resources, environmental sciences or similar field preferred. </li><li>Required: Minimum of two years managing projects and staff in the sustainability or conservation space </li><li>Required: Working knowledge of habitat restoration best practices </li><li>Required: ISDA Pesticide Applicators License, or willing to obtain within 60 days of employment. </li><li>Required: Valid driver's license and has maintained a safe and clean driving record. </li><li>Preferred: Wilderness First Aid, or similar certification </li></ul>Additional Requirements<ul><li>Passion for the Bogus Basin Mission </li><li>Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) </li><li>Proficient computer skills and experience using, but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Earth, etc. </li><li>Work effectively with internal teams and partners with varying priorities to advance shared goals </li><li>Excellent data collection and organization skills </li><li>Desire to care for open spaces and the environment </li><li>Excellent ability to articulate concepts related to ecosystem services, climate action, and related topics </li><li>Strong plant identification skills </li><li>Able and willing to design and create education resources to communicate with the public about stewardship and sustainability initiatives </li><li>Ability to navigate mountainous terrain with or without GPS or maps. </li><li>Background check required. </li><li>Must be at least 25 years of age </li><li>Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays </li></ul>Physical<ul><li>Consistently travel 2-12 miles per day on foot while transporting backpack sprayers weighing up to 50 lbs. on steep and uneven terrain (on and off trail) in all conditions </li><li>Operate vehicles including vans, trucks with trailers, four-wheelers and side-by-sides. </li><li>Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, or kneel </li><li>Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and accurately, with or without supervision, and without injury to incumbent or others </li><li>Ability to stand, balance, walk and reach with hands and arms </li></ul>
