Waste Management is seeking Diesel Mechanics to inspect, maintain, and repair diesel-powered garbage trucks and heavy equipment used for waste collection operations. Diesel Mechanics are responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, repairing engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other truck components, and ensuring all vehicles meet safety and DOT inspection standards. Mechanics use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment to complete repairs and maintenance. The Front End Driver is a specialized position responsible for the mechanical collection of solid waste from commercial and industrial accounts. This role requires elite maneuvering skills to service tight enclosures and the physical stamina to manage heavy containers. You will operate high-capacity front-end loading equipment, interact directly with the public, and ensure 100% compliance with DOT and company safety standards. Key Responsibilities <ul><li>Equipment Operation: Drive and operate commercial front-end loader or ancillary equipment along designated routes to collect and transport solid waste to post-collection facilities. </li><li>Site Management: Manually open container enclosures or gates to access bins. Maneuver 3-to-4-yard containers on castors into position for dumping as required. </li><li>Safety & Inspections: Perform rigorous daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (DVIR). Document and submit vehicle condition reports at the end of every shift. </li><li>Route Efficiency: Utilize key maps and GPS to navigate service addresses efficiently. Maintain a daily logbook and productivity sheets as required by law and company policy. </li><li>Customer Service: Provide professional and courteous interaction with customers and the general public; notify supervisors of any service issues requiring management action. </li><li>Site Cleanliness: Ensure customer sites remain clean by clearing any loose trash or debris spilled during the dumping process. </li><li>Hazard Detection: Monitor operations via mirrors or direct sight to detect loose debris or falling objects. Identify and report "unacceptable waste" (flammables, hazardous liquids, etc.). </li><li>Compliance: Follow all safe operating practices, including Lock Out/Tag Out procedures. Comply with all federal, state, and local rules on safety and vehicle operation. </li></ul>Required Qualifications <ul><li>Licensure: Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B. </li><li>Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of commercial truck driving experience OR a certificate of completion from an accredited CDL school. </li><li>Safety Criteria: Must meet all relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to DOT and Company standards. </li><li>Maneuvering Skills: Demonstrated ability to safely drive the truck and operate equipment in tight/high-traffic areas, including backing 120+ feet using mirrors. </li></ul>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities <ul><li>Mechanical Knowledge: Understanding of truck components and basic maintenance requirements for safe daily operation. </li><li>Physical Strength: Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs frequently and occasionally up to 100 lbs. Ability to push or maneuver containers weighing up to 300 lbs. </li><li>Mobility: Frequent entering and exiting of the truck cab. Key Responsibilities: • Operate container delivery truck and operate on-board hydraulic systems to deliver and remove solid waste dumpster containers. • Complete pre-trip and post-trip safety lane inspections and reports, daily truck report, route sheets and other documentation requested by supervisor daily. • Communicate vehicle mechanical problems to mechanic and supervisor immediately. • Operate truck and equipment using prescribed techniques to eliminate driver-induced mechanical failures. • Maintain route quality standards as predetermined by management. • Must keep inventory on yard in an orderly manner • Position containers at customer location to ensure potential hazards are minimized or eliminated. • Ensure containers without lids are covered during transport. • Follow all safety standards, equipment checks and precautions in performance of all duties.
