I. JOB OVERVIEWThe Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences provides undergraduate and graduate programs focused on engaging students in the acquisition and application of knowledge of human communication and its disorders. Whether learning about communication sciences or the relationship between language and society, students studying speech, language, and hearing sciences receive in-depth knowledge of all aspects of communication, including the consequences of speech, language, and hearing challenges on individuals and society and the treatment of communication impairments.This Academic Department Administrative Supervisor position manages a team in order to provide enhanced administrative support to an academic department. This position typically interfaces with departmental personnel to coordinate operational activities to ensure adequate manning, space and facilities. This role supervises and coordinates the work of designated employees, coordinates purchasing, maintenance and renovation activities for the department, administers a program of property management and accountability, determines fiscal requirements, makes projections and prepares departmental budgets. Additional responsibilities include monitoring, verifying and reconciling expenditures of budgeted funds, and preparing financial statements reflecting the status of programs and activities while ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, manages performance, and determines future staffing needs.Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 4 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
