Job Summary
This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for "POOL" positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. If/when a position becomes available, the College will review applications from this pool and interview candidates whose qualifications best match the specific opening. Applicants must reapply to the pool annually to maintain their active status in the pool.
Teach and inspire students in machining trades while helping them build real-world skills and strong safety habits that meet industry standards. Guide their learning through hands-on lab work and meaningful feedback to help them succeed in class and in their future careers. This is a part-time position at the Albany Campus.
Essential Duties
- Teach first and second-year courses in Machine Tool or Manufacturing Technology.
- Promotes excellence in instruction.
- Identifies and meets the learning needs of the students.
- Develops course schedules and syllabi.
- Plans, develops, and delivers classroom lectures and activities as well as writes tests and develops other methods to evaluate student progress and competence.
- Works effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages and successfully interacts with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education team.
- Communicates effectively in oral and written English.
- Keeps accurate grade and attendance records.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates degree in Machine Tool or Manufacturing and equivalent to five years full-time industrial experience including manual machining, CNC, and CAM.
- Ability to lecture and use instructional tools to deliver instruction (i.e., PowerPoint, DVDs).
- Ability to design instruction and do curriculum mapping.
- Ability to work as a team member.
Preferred Qualifications
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time in a machine shop or classroom setting.
- Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate machine tools, handle parts and materials, and demonstrate equipment use.
- Requires normal hearing and speaking skills to communicate with students and colleagues over the sound of shop equipment.
- Requires visual acuity to read precision instruments, technical drawings, and computer screens and to monitor machine operation.
- Job duties require frequent standing, walking, and reaching; occasional bending, stooping, and lifting of light to medium weight (10-50 pounds) such as machine parts, tools, or raw materials.
- Work is performed indoors in a machine shop environment with exposure to noise, vibration, metal shavings, cutting fluids, and other industrial materials.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, and closed-toe footwear is required.
