Position Description
Accountant 1
General Overview Under direction; prepares accounting: management and financial reports, reconciles and audits account balances, researches, assist with accounting system changes, performs special accounting projects as directed. Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications A combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge and listed below.
Bachelor's Degree in accounting or a business related discipline. Must possess a valid State of Ohio vehicle operator's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of accounting; auditing; department goals and objectives; department policies and procedures; government structure and process; office practices and procedures. Ability to understand a practical field of study (i.e. financial accounting); define problems; collect data; establish facts and draw valid conclusions; calculate fractions, decimals and percentages; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; use proper research methods in gathering data; communicate effectively in written and/or oral form; gather, collect and/or classify information about data, people and/or things; cooperate with co-workers on group projects. Skills in calculator operation; personal computer operation. (*indicates developed after employment).
Job Duties
The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.
Prepares accounting reports to assist in department and government management (e.g. balance sheets, account activity and balances, payroll activity, interest allocation tables, Individual funds listing, financial condition and analysis, etc.), reconciles account balances and performs account distribution as required, prepares comprehensive annual financial report, estimates funds projection based upon county activity.
Prepares monthly reports (e.g.- insurance premium activity, vouchers for payment, etc.), monitors accounting standards end performs audits to ensure compliance, audits tax and other receipts to maintain current balances.
Prepares analysis and assist in systems changes (e.g., accounting methods, computer, hardware, computer software, etc.), assists in annual financial report preparation, monitors debt service accounts and advises on
debt service matters and activity.
Performs special projects (e.g., analyses to estimate financial needs, designs new methods and forms for funds, transfers and refunds, etc.).

Must be able to meet the bonding eligibility requirements.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a business related discipline. Must possess a valid State of Ohio vehicle operator's license.
Experience in using Excel and Great Plains software but not necessary. Must be able to multi-task.
