Accountant Biller — Urgently hiring in Los Angeles!

Job Title: Accountant Biller

Pay: $35.00 per hour

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

As an Accountant Biller, you'll be responsible for managing and preparing timely cost-reimbursement billings for county contracts. You’ll work closely with the finance team to ensure accuracy, compliance, and smooth financial operations. Your work will directly support community services and organizational growth.

What You'll Do

As an Accountant Biller, you will be responsible for:
  • Preparing monthly cost-reimbursement billings for Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) contracts
  • Compiling invoices and supporting schedules using general ledger and payroll data
  • Gathering and organizing supporting documentation, including payroll records, vendor invoices, and financial reports
  • Ensuring invoices align with contract requirements, budgets, and internal policies
  • Reconciling billing submissions with general ledger, payroll, and budgets before submission
  • Monitoring and following up on accounts receivable to maintain healthy cash flow
  • Maintaining organized electronic files and audit-ready documentation
  • Analyzing monthly budget-to-actual variances, providing explanations, and making necessary adjustments
  • Serving as the point of contact for county and city agencies regarding billing inquiries
  • Supporting agency financial audits by preparing schedules and documentation
  • Assisting with contract proposals and budget submissions
  • Collaborating within a team to promote a trauma-informed, inclusive work environment
  • Performing special projects and additional billing or accounting duties as needed
What You'll Bring The ideal candidate for this role will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
  • At least two years of accounting experience
  • Experience with cost-reimbursement contract billing (highly preferred)
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting practices and Los Angeles County contracts (a plus)
  • Experience with MIP Accounting software (a plus)
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and audit procedures
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables and lookup functions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize competing deadlines
