Accountant Finance & Administration
Location: Los Angeles, CA Union Station Area
Duration: Up to 6-Month Contract Assignment
Schedule: Hybrid Monday & Tuesday Onsite
Hours: 8:00 AM 5:30 PM, Monday Friday with alternating Fridays off
Pay Rate: $45 $54/hour

Position Overview
A large public agency serving Southern California is seeking an experienced Accountant to support its Finance & Administration Controller's Office. This position will independently perform professional accounting work involving general ledger activities, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, accounts receivable, audit support, and transaction research.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of full-time Accountant experience, advanced Excel skills, and experience working with enterprise accounting systems. Oracle experience is highly preferred. This individual should be comfortable managing a high-volume workload, researching complex transactions, identifying discrepancies, and resolving or recommending solutions to accounting issues.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare journal entries, cost transfers, and other accounting transactions.
  • Perform account reconciliations and analyze differences between subsidiary systems and the general ledger.
  • Research transactions, identify discrepancies, and resolve or recommend solutions to accounting issues.
  • Gather, analyze, and validate accounting data and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare financial schedules and reports, including information supporting the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Prepare month-end journal entries, reconciliations, workpapers, and concise financial reports.
  • Process accounts receivable transactions, including preparing invoices, recording receipts, and monitoring outstanding balances.
  • Process and track payment requests and provide status updates on key payments.
  • Maintain accounting records and supporting documentation, including property ownership and escrow records as assigned.
  • Respond to accounting-related questions from internal departments, staff, and external parties.
  • Coordinate with other departments to resolve accounting and transaction-processing issues.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, gathering supporting documentation, and responding to information requests.
  • Process Delta Conveyance Authority invoice payments and maintain subsidiary ledgers for the related trust account.
  • Serve as a liaison with external auditors during audit periods.
  • Maintain operating equipment subsidiary ledgers.
  • Monitor e-vehicle purchase transactions and maintain related subsidiary ledger records.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of full-time professional Accountant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting and at least 2 years of relevant experience; OR a combination of education and relevant experience totaling 6 years.
  • Advanced/Expert Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting concepts, principles, practices, and applicable rules and regulations.
  • Experience using enterprise accounting systems.
  • Ability to prepare journal entries, perform reconciliations, research discrepancies, and work with general ledger accounts.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment while also working effectively as part of a team.
  • Must be based locally in Southern California.
  • Must not have current CalPERS membership.
  • No H-1B candidates.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Oracle or a comparable enterprise accounting system.
  • Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting activities.
  • Experience preparing audit schedules and supporting internal or external audits.
  • Public-sector, government, utility, or similarly complex organizational accounting experience is a plus.
