Our client is seeking an accountant in the financial services industry, located in Richmond, Virginia area. This position is responsible for recording and reconciling the financial results for various reporting segments, divisions, and insurance companies as part of the Close Control & Reporting (CCR) department within the company's finance group. CCR is responsible for the controls and processes around reporting the company's division and segment results. Responsibilities include:

  • Perform journal entries and account reconciliations including identification and remediation of issues in compliance with audit requirements.
  • Participate in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of monthly and quarterly accounting and reporting for multiple programs.
  • Assist with the preparation of income statement and balance sheet packages and related comprehensive analysis for variances and trends.
  • Assist with the preparation of insurance company financial statements and ensure compliance with statutory guidance and regulatory deadlines.
  • Participate in the internal and external audit process, as needed.
  • Assist with systems integration and testing, as needed.
  • Work closely with other functional areas (i.e., Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurance Ops, Disbursements) to resolve issues and support achievement of business goals.
  • Collaborate with teammates and initiate ideas with management to identify, design, and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist with ad-hoc requests and other strategic accounting and business projects as they arise.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required; accounting graduate degree preferred.

Certification:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or candidate preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 1 - 3 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience applying a SQL and/or VBA in a business environment preferred.
  • Experience in the insurance and/or reinsurance industry preferred.
