Work Schedule

This is a full-time, nine-month faculty appointment. Faculty members typically teach an average load of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester.

Work schedules may include:
  • Day and evening classes
  • Online (synchronous and asynchronous) instruction
  • In-person instruction
  • Dual enrollment courses with local high schools
  • Assignments at multiple campus locations, as needed
In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty are required to:
  • Maintain regular posted student engagement hours
  • Provide academic advising to students
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and college meetings
  • Engage in curriculum development and institutional service activities
While faculty schedules vary based on course assignments, this position requires availability to meet instructional, advising, and institutional responsibilities throughout the academic year.

Summer teaching opportunities may be available based on enrollment and program needs.

Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds Community College seeks qualified applicants for the position of Accounting Instructor in the School of Business and Industrial Trades. This full-time, nine-month faculty-ranked appointment offers the opportunity to teach, mentor, and help shape the future of our accounting program while contributing to a collaborative academic community.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of principles in accounting and the ability to transfer the knowledge in relevant and meaningful ways to a diverse group of learners
  • Ability to teach college-level accounting courses to include auditing, federal taxation, and cost accounting
  • Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate the diversity of community college students
  • Ability to use formative and summative assessment measure to enhance student learning
  • Experience with or ability to utilize proven teaching strategies that promote student success
  • Ability to use or incorporate emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods to enhance classroom instruction
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills
  • Available to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in accounting
OR
  • Master's degree in a related field (Business, Finance, Taxation) with eighteen (18) graduate semester credits in accounting and a preference of a minimum of two years of full-time (or full-time equivalent) related work experience
OR
  • An alternative credential may be approved by the Chief Academic Officer for a Bachelor's in Accounting, Business, Finance with significant certifications that demonstrate competency in accounting topics (CPA) and a minimum of two years of full-time (or full-time equivalent) related work experience.
  • A minimum of two years of full-time college-level teaching experience in the teaching field and/or related occupational experience
Additional Considerations
  • Occupational experience in the field
  • Active CPA license is preferred in addition to other accounting related certificates or credentials
  • Experience using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard or Canvas)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written
  • The ability to work with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students
  • Experience teaching in higher education, online experience a plus
