The Accounting & Finance Manager, reporting to the Director of Sunnyside Apartments, will join a management team of five other individuals, collaborating to lead family and graduate housing operations at the University of Utah. This position provides supervision of one staff member in the main office of Sunnyside Apartments and is responsible for the day-to-day management of that staff. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all aspects of accounting and finance functions within the assigned department. Under minimal supervision, the role involves managing internal and external customer service, staffing, and financial operations in areas including, but not limited to, invoicing, payroll, purchasing, collections, credits, budgeting, expenses, fiscal reporting, profitability, allocations, inventory (both capital and non-capital), and reconciliation between the Sunnyside apartment management system (Yardi Voyager) and the University of Utah's financial reporting system (Peoplesoft).

Responsibilities

Direct/Manage/Supervise one or more accounting teams. Ensure organizational adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or other accounting standards. Ensure timely preparation and review of all required regulatory filings. Advise on annual budgeting and prepare accounting reports for executive leadership. Review work submitted by accountants and manage accounting close processes. Perform analysis on financials and accounting metrics for presentation to leadership. First-level manager. Manages the activities of supervisors and/or individual contributors. Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews. Broad knowledge of the field with demonstrated leadership skills.

Collaboration with Sunnyside Management Team Members to lead the University of Utah's family and graduate housing operations.

Monthly and Annual Profit & Loss statements

Monthly and Annual Balance Sheet reconciliation

Monthly and Annual Restoration & Renewal Statements

Annual Operating & R&R Budgets,

Financial Reporting as required by Auxiliary Services, University of Utah CFO, Board of Trustees, and Board of Regents

Manage A/P and A/R

Purchasing Card departmental program management - reallocation, and reconciliation

Internal Audit Response

Daily Deposit Approval

Petty Cash Custodian

Staff Management

Maintain and Archive Financial Records per University of Utah Policy

Capital and Non-Capital Inventory

Stockroom Inventory & Procurement Oversight

Office Management Functions

Cross-Training on daily Office Business Processes as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences

Demonstrated excellence in customer service at a previous employer.

Experience in property management and/or residential rentals.

Demonstrated history of successful service to or for non-traditional students and/or students of international origin.
