Accounting Manager

Join a growing Charlotte-based CPA firm as an Accounting Manager and become a key leader within a collaborative, client-focused team. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys building strong client relationships, mentoring team members,and delivering strategic accounting solutions to privately held small- and mid-sized businesses. You'll oversee client engagements, provide trusted financial guidance, and help develop staff while continuing to grow your own career through leadership opportunities, professional development, and a clear path for advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Client Accounting Services ("CAS"), which encompasses quarterly or monthly outsourced controllership and consulting to clients' accounting staff or office managers.
  • Oversee and review all general ledger reconciliations and review client journal entries.
  • Review fixed asset registers.
  • Review prepaid and accrual schedules.
  • Review the month-end close process.
  • Review and troubleshoot any issues with bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Review schedules for external auditor requests.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of staff and interns within our mentorship program.
  • Lead the client on-boarding process, including developing financial reports, chart of accounts, and initial revisions.
  • Analyze financial results and make recommendations to client management.
  • Reconcile, review and post monthly payroll entries.
  • Review annual 1099 forms and annual/quarterly payroll tax returns.
  • Review business personal property tax returns.
  • Review income tax returns for small businesses and their owners.
  • Work as a team with the client manager to coordinate multiple service deliverables and setting timelines for the accounting, attest, and tax compliance as a holistic service provider.
  • Generate invoices for client services for partner review.
  • Start to develop new business relationships with potential clients and company personnel to grow the clientele base and work to foster on-going efforts to obtain additional opportunities for the firm.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant experience, specifically external client-facing services.
  • Prior experience in training and technical review of staff work.
  • Experience with various versions of QuickBooks Desktop and Online.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and meet tight monthly deadlines.
  • Strong judgment skills and ability to know when to escalate an issue to the partner on a client account.

Preferred

  • Active CPA License or EA
  • Experience with business clients $1-$15+ million in revenue.
  • Knowledge of federal and state payroll tax requirements.
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills with Excel (including pivot and VLOOKUP).
  • Industry knowledge for construction/contractors, real estate, and/or professional services.
  • Motivated to be an advisor to a variety of business clients with varying skill levels.
