Accounting Manager – Construction

Chicago, IL | Onsite | $115,000–$135,000 + Bonus

Our client is a growing construction and project management organization looking to add an Accounting Manager to its team. This is a hands-on accounting leadership role with responsibility for the accuracy of financial reporting, project accounting, cash flow visibility, payroll, and process improvement.

\n

\n

The Accounting Manager will work closely with finance leadership, project teams, operations, and HR to strengthen the accounting function and provide better visibility into project and company performance.

\n

\n

Key Responsibilities:

\n

• Lead the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger oversight

\n

• Prepare and analyze monthly financial reporting and provide financial insight to leadership

\n

• Own WIP reporting, revenue recognition, job costing, and project accounting

\n

• Review project financial activity to identify risks, variances, and areas requiring attention

\n

• Oversee client billing, lien waivers, and related project accounting requirements

\n

• Manage biweekly payroll and weekly union payroll, including related reporting and compliance

\n

• Support cash flow forecasting, working capital analysis, A/R collections, and banking/surety reporting

\n

• Monitor financial covenant compliance and assist with year-end financial statement and tax processes

\n

• Supervise and mentor Project Accountant(s) and provide guidance to the broader accounting team

\n

• Strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems

\n

• Develop more consistent, scalable processes as the organization continues to grow

\n

\n

What We're Looking For:

\n

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within construction or another project-based environment

\n

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

\n

• Strong understanding of construction accounting, WIP, job costing, billing, and project financials

\n

• Experience owning or playing a significant role in the month-end close

\n

• Payroll experience; union payroll experience is a plus

\n

• Strong Excel and financial analysis skills

\n

• Experience with accounting systems and financial reporting tools

\n

• Ability to work effectively with both accounting and non-finance stakeholders

\n

• Strong attention to detail with a practical, process-improvement mindset

\n

• Ability to operate in a growing environment where processes may continue to evolve

\n

$120,000–$140,000 base salary
