Accounting Manager (part time)

Our client, a growing accounting and advisory firm, is seeking a Part-Time Accounting Manager to serve as the primary point of contact for a dedicated portfolio of 4-6 clients receiving fractional controller and monthly accrual-basis accounting services. This is a client-facing, hands-on role that includes light supervisory responsibility over staff accountants supporting the same client portfolio. The ideal candidate translates technical accounting details into clear, confident guidance for clients via calls and email. This is a remote (in NC or TX), part-time (20 hours/week) position with a flexible schedule built around consistently meeting client needs, calls, deadlines, and close timelines.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of 4–6 clients on fractional controller/monthly accrual engagements, owning each client relationship end to end
• Lead recurring client calls, fielding questions with confidence, and communicate proactively with clients
• Review the work of staff accountants, providing guidance and feedback
• Perform and oversee day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, including recording transactions, maintaining general ledger accuracy, and ensuring timely, accurate posting of financial data
• Own the month-end and year-end close process for assigned clients, ensuring reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reports are accurate and timely
• Analyze complex transactions across the client base, ensuring proper classification and treatment on the P&L and balance sheet
• Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and ad hoc analyses for clients and internal use
• Perform and review reconciliations for all necessary accounts, including cash, AR, AP, and payroll
• Identify process improvements and help implement best practices and technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy
• Collaborate with partners and the tax team on timely, accurate completion of tax-related tasks, including data review for federal/state income tax returns and sales tax compliance

Skills/Requirements

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated comfort leading client calls and presenting financial information to non-accountants
• Demonstrated trustworthiness and high ethical standards
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet firm deadlines
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Google Sheets (or similar software)
• Thorough knowledge of GAAP and experience implementing accounting policies and procedures
• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management
• Willingness to learn, adapt to new software, and contribute to a collaborative team environment
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, and/or 8+ years of relevant accounting experience including supervisory or review responsibilities
• Preferred: prior client-facing accounting/controller/advisory experience, experience with monthly accrual-basis close for multiple clients, and familiarity with tools beyond QuickBooks (Ramp, Gusto, etc.)
