Summary: The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all general ledger and subsidiary ledger activities, including accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, for the Saint Louis Art Museum and St. Louis Art Museum Foundation. This role ensures adherence to sound accounting practices and strong internal controls, verifies the accuracy of financial data, and supports the preparation of internal and external financial reports, including tax filings and audit documentation.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Oversee the preparation and review of monthly journal entriesMonitor and review general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and completenessReconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly and annual basisOversee and participate in the preparation of analysis and audit schedulesSupervise the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and reportsManage the accounting and reporting of restricted and endowment fundsSupervise cash receipts, accounts receivable, and accounts payable operations, including oversight of assigned staffReview and verify coding accuracy and supporting documentation for Museum purchasesReview and file annual IRS forms 1099 and 1042, and St. Louis City form E-6Perform quarterly and annual payroll and payroll tax reconciliations, ensuring alignment between the general ledger and tax filingsAssist the Accounting Director with annual budget preparation, audit coordination, and tax filingsCollaborate with the Accounting Director to ensure timely completion of audited financial statementsProvide training and ongoing development for accounting staff, including system and software trainingRespond to inquiries regarding financial results, reporting, and special projects as requested by leadershipEnsure appropriate segregation of duties to maintain strong internal controls while aligning responsibilities with staff capabilities and deadlinesSupport the development and implementation of process improvements and enhanced workflowsMaintain and update the accounting policies and procedures manual annuallyPerform additional duties as assignedOther Responsibilities:Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writingFoster positive and collaborative working relationships across departmentsIn the absence of the Accounting Director, assume responsibility for ensuring continuity of financial and accounting operationsQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance requiredMinimum of five (5) years of accounting experience in non‑profit organizationDemonstrated experience supervising staff and managing accounting operationsStrong knowledge of budgeting, purchasing, general ledger reporting, and problem solvingAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and WordExperience with Blackbaud Financial Edge preferredExceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracyCPA preferredAdditional DetailsPay Range: $101,547 – $126,934/year, commensurate with experienceStatus: Regular, Full-TimeThe Museum is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
