Description / Position Overview

About the Job: Under the supervision of the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) Victim Advocacy Unit (VAU) Coordinator, you will assist with the oversight of the VAU Volunteer Program by providing supervision to the volunteer victim advocates and coordinating their recruitment, training, evaluation, deployment, and documentation.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Must be able to work overtime as necessary.

This is a grant-funded position with funding through December 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide supervision of volunteer victim advocates
  • Screen volunteers and coordinate training of all volunteer victim advocates
  • Organize and implement two Victim Advocacy Volunteer Training Academies each year, including orientation and on-the-job-training
  • Maintain volunteer victim advocate schedules, including office support and on-call rotations
  • Prepare and coordinate the daily caseloads for volunteer advocates
  • Schedule monthly VAU volunteer meetings and training for volunteer victim advocates
  • Collect volunteer timesheets and track volunteer hours
  • Maintain an organized and well-supplied work environment for volunteer advocates
  • Maintain the stock of supplies in VAU vehicles
  • Communicate all up-to-date VAU information with volunteer advocates, including meeting minutes, on-call reminders, and changes in VAU operations
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Administrator and Coordinators of Community Advancing Public Safety (CAPS)
  • Input data on victim contacts for tracking and reporting purposes
  • Assist with all other volunteer program duties, as assigned
  • Assist with VAU administrative duties, as assigned
  • Provide direct victim care as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of modern office technology and supporting software
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Proficiency in data entry

This position requires a resourceful individual with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
  • Four years of full-time, professional experience in a related field.

One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework specifically related to his position beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience coordinating volunteer programs
  • One year of experience providing victim advocacy services
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and the Internet.
