Summary

Job Summary

The Administrative Director for Outpatient Pharmacy Services plans, organizes, and directs the operations of all outpatient/ambulatory pharmacy services to include all retail pharmacies, specialty pharmacy, free-standing ED pharmacies, ambulatory surgical center pharmacies and clinical pharmacy services in the neighborhood clinics. Provides direction in Ambulatory/Outpatient Pharmacy to include business development, operations management, clinical services, pharmacy data analytics, and pharmacy procurement/inventory management. Under the direction of the Assistant Administrator of Pharmacy, develops the strategy for and implements new Ambulatory Pharmacy programs and policies aligned with the Hospital Strategic Plan.

 

 

 Minimum Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

Five years of progressive management experience, preferably within a large health system or academic medical center. Demonstrated experience in managing multiple pharmacy locations and diverse teams.  Proven track record of financial management, budget oversight, and revenue growth.  Experience with pharmacy information systems and automation technologies.

 

License/Registration/Certification:       

Current Texas Pharmacy License.

Current Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) or an equivalent certification preferred;

BLS and ACLS required.

 

Education and Training:          

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy required.     Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or related field preferred

 

Skills:

             

  1. Knowledge of health‑system pharmacy leadership principles, including supervision of directors, managers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  2. Skill in managing and developing leadership‑level staff, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  3. Ability to oversee complex inpatient pharmacy operations across multiple service lines with strategic and operational alignment.
  4. Knowledge of healthcare budgeting and financial management, including cost‑reduction strategies, variance analysis, and forecasting.
  5. Skill in preparing and evaluating capital requests, including CER development, cost‑benefit analysis, and competitive bid assessment.
  6. Ability to evaluate, select, and implement pharmacy technologies, automation systems, and workflow‑enhancing tools.
  7. Ability to design and support continuing education and professional development programs for pharmacists, technicians, and administrative staff.
  8. Knowledge of productivity benchmarking and FTE management, including staffing analysis based on standards.
  9. Skill in coordinating staffing models, including on‑call schedules and supervisory coverage across inpatient operations.
  10. Ability to standardize workflows, policies, and best practices across multiple campuses to improve quality, safety, and efficiency.
  11. Knowledge of operational improvement strategies, including automation, technology optimization, and compliance‑driven enhancements.
  12. Ability to ensure delivery of evidence‑based, patient‑centered medication therapy management in acute care environments.
  13. Skill in overseeing clinical pharmacy programs.
