Schedule: Mon – Fri (Hybrid) (Mon – Thu onsite, Friday remote)
Job Description: The Advertising Standards & Practices team handles clearance of advertising intended for linear distribution across major broadcast, cable, and related streaming networks. Standards & Practices Associates review high-profile national advertising campaigns to ensure consistency with company policy, network and industry advertising guidelines.
The team provides industry-leading support and works collaboratively and creatively with internal and external stakeholders, including Ad Sales and related teams, media buyers, and advertising agency executives.
Responsibilities- Review advertising at all phases of development, from concept or script stage through final execution, to assess overall acceptability, including:
- Tastefulness and appropriateness
- Truthfulness and accuracy of advertising claims
- Appropriate scheduling
- Compliance with company, network, and industry advertising guidelines
- Interpret and apply advertising policies and address technical issues and matters of taste and appropriateness.
- Identify express and implied advertising claims and evaluate the adequacy of supporting documentation provided by advertisers.
- Review supporting materials such as studies, market research, product testing, clinical information, and complex industry-specific data to determine whether advertising claims are truthful and accurate.
- Apply an understanding of community sensibilities and awareness of current events when evaluating matters of taste and appropriateness.
- Communicate creative review comments, requests for supporting documentation, suggestions for creative revisions, and conclusions regarding proposed content to internal teams, advertising clients, media buyers, and agency executives.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders throughout the advertising clearance process.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of communications, claim support, documentation, and materials obtained and utilized during the clearance process.
- Manage a steady influx of assignments and inquiries while prioritizing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Exercise a high level of analytical rigor and attention to detail throughout the review and clearance process.
Required Qualifications- Working knowledge or familiarity with advertising or marketing laws.
- Familiarity with Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations.
- Knowledge or experience related to clinical analysis, product testing, market research, and/or statistical analysis.
- Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-starter who can manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Ability to handle a steady volume of assignments and stakeholder inquiries in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain thorough and accurate records.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a role demonstrating strong analytical skills, writing ability, attention to detail, and interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in broadcast, advertising standards, and/or advertising production is a plus.
Required Education- Bachelor's degree (BS/BA).
Preferred Education- Juris Doctor (JD), or
- Master's or advanced degree or relevant academic background in:
